Twins/BHAF

When build a set of twins, on a second gen. , if you could get it piped in correctly, would using a BHAF be a good idea or would a paper filter be a bad choice? I don't like the idea of an "oiled" filter, but would a paper filter hold up? Or could there be an issue with it collapsing in on itself? Any words of wisdom here would be great. TIA

I won't use paper. The whole idea of twins is air flow. Look at www.powerbypoole.com and you can see great piping and a good filter. That's what I went with. No issues

I don't know what your doing for turbo's but let say up to a 40/3B combo running at 65-70 psi an AFE 5x12 like PDR / Poole use is enough filter!



Don't use that BHAF or too small of a filter you will suck the seal out of the big turbo and make it leak oil... ... right into the cold pipe... ... ask me how I know this!

Jim, I'm fighting the same problem on my first gen. I have a PDR HX35 with a wastegated 12 housing on top and a HT3B bottom turbo. I used the 4" filter setup I already had on my first gen when the twins were put on. I have a 4" AFE cone filter about 10" long. I will have around 55# boost once I get everything working right. I have about 45 right now and have been pulling the filter minder to 100% whenever I get on it. Thought the AFE might be too small so I put the 1st gen BHAF paper filter back on yesterday as a test. The 1st gen BHAF's are big mothers and I thought that might show if the AFE filter was too small. Still pull the minder to 100%!



Question- is the 4" line to the turbo too small or is it the filter? (or both?)

jabird, I'm not tying to hyjack the thread, just thought my problem is along the line of your question

Where is the filter minder at? It's possible that the location is the issue. Especially, if it is in the tube between the filter and the turbo. This will skew the reading.

Dave, yes, that is where it's at. I have a 45 degree neoprene elbow about 3" from the filter and it is mounted there. Where else can I mount it? The filter is in the fender well area with no box around it. I have the "Old Smokey" mount setup that Mike made for awhile. I suspect the 4" tube is the problem.

Me personally I would go to a 5" inlet pipe and filter!



I thought mine was fine too until I sucked the seal out of the B/B. My new filter is a 6x24 with no piping as it's mounted within a few inches of the turbo.

Nope, but you can call PDR as I know they have them for there Twin kits.

Any issues with heat/road spray with mounting your filter inches from the bottom turbo?

You *could* run paper, but a BHAF is WAY TOO SMALL for even small twins.

You need lot-o-air, and a paper filter is going to have to be huge to flow.

That means Farr Ecolite range-- 1500cfm, 7" oulet, 26" long, etc.

Tough to package, but creativity may let you pull it off.

this $27 bhaf with metal screen on the inside is workin well so far.

KN makes a 4"inlet 7"x18" it will move some air. It aslo has an internal mesh screen so it will not collapse on it self unlike the AFE which do not have the internal screen.
