What is the advantage/disadvantage of twins. If I want to have 450-500 rwhp, what is better, the new modern vvt style singles or am I still better doing the twins? Thanks!

I would go with II phat shaft single turbos, the advantage of a single turbo, the cost about half as much, plus it is a whole lot easier to put on.....

I run a single I. I. SPS 66 at 600+hp on a daily driver, mine has a big ported head but run a stock cam. At that power level I'm on at 42 psi! I would say a SPS 62 or 66 if you are going to make more power later, for all out go with a Silver Bullet 62 or 66..... the last is the ultimate.

Two performance differences. The smaller twins will spool up faster if used in parallel. And they are more efficient at compression if used in series (as in a two stage air compressor) particularly if you use an intercooler between stages. But you have to want to throw some real money at fairly small performance increases to go with either of those approaches.

Comes down to what egt's you want to run. Any single will be hot over 400hp. If you can stand lag and 1600+deg's at 450hp go with a single. If you want faster spool-up and lower egt's, go with a set of twins.

I vote for a good single and a little laughing gas to keep things cool. :-laf :-laf

If you have twins and two kids you got it once.

If you had singles and two kids you got it twice.

Nuff said.

edit:

OOOOPS... wrong forum!

never mind

Do I gather correctly that although a good single can support the higher power levels, it just not not flow enough cfm to keep the smoke and EGTs down? Is that it in a nutshell? Thanks!

Robert my truck runs about 1600-1650 at 600 hp with a top of around 1700 at rotate speed... ... . verified this last week testing, once it stops climbing the speed O is pegged or close to it. Keep in mind this is my truck.

There is allot of talk and has been over the last 2 years on the Single verses Twins topic since I. I. hit the scene with the Phat Shaft.

I will tell you way back in 03' I ran the same head but with a little less flow, stock cam, 370's, 13mm pump and a stock 35/18. 5 - HT3B/26 set of Twins and was at 670 hp on #2 and would make right at 1700 degrees. That is one reference on cooling but based on old stuff... ... Nascar remembers this as he was running the dyno

The last one was the same setup I have but going from my SPS 66 matched with a Big Brother then from that going to just the 66. The EGT difference was about 125 degrees but lost say 75 hp.

It's really up to you and what you want for power, max or towing and how much money you are willing to spend.
