If you haven’t yet had a chance to read Mark Barnes’ regular column “Motor Minded” in the current issue of the TDR (#112 - pages 64-66), we trust you’ll enjoy his overviews and interpretations as he reviews two books by a truly motor-minded author, Matthew B. Crawford.

Why We Drive, and Shopcraft as Soulcraft are two books by Crawford, which, from reading Mark’s reviews, sound like timely and appropriate options for the summer reading list of any serious-minded gearhead. But don’t take our word for it, take a look at what Mark has to say before you decide.

(Side note: a quick check on the internet confirmed that both books are also available as audio books).

I read "Shop Class as Soulcraft" when it first came out and twice since. Can't recommend it highly enough. It speaks of the real value to a society of those skilled enough to create and maintain so many things that we take for granted every day. Thanks to Mark's article I heard about Mr. Crawford's latest effort. Great read. Silicon Valley might not like it. If you are enjoying his writing he also wrote "The World Beyond Your Head"; also well worth the time to read. Thanks again to Mark Barnes for his fine synopsis.
