Ok, I am deciding betwwen DDII's and DDIII's, are the III's worth the extra money? And to save money do I really need DD's boost module with my existing elbow and JVD box? Then if I do still need a boost module what is a good cheap one? Has anyone bought or heard anything on the new JVD A. D. D? it is an anti-defueling Device, will this help with boost also? I need answers soon, the miss at idle is still driving me nuts and I want to blow smoke on all the Powdersmokes out there :D :D I know that my stock clucth isn't going to last very long and I will upgrade that when it goes, it is no longer a question. Thanks for all the help and sorry for being long-winded.

Are 3's worth it... ... ... YES, YES, YES!!!!!!! Can you clarify what a JVD box is? If it is a fueling box than it probably has a built in boost module. Have you disabled the wastegate? If you are currently able to get above 20 psi in boost than the box has a boost module built in. Try doing a searh and you will find pages of this stuff.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Do it right and get the III's. Don't get me wrong, the II's are great, but I find myself daydreaming about that extra power and smoke. OK maybe just the smoke but you know what I mean. :D

thanks

jwinnie

do you still have the factory turbo set-up? I really don't want to change mine, with the torque enhancer will my egt's be too high with DDIII's? I do tow a good bit and it gets pretty heavy in the spring and fall. I still have to get a boost and pyro but they willl be on it before the injectors. i normally run the torque enhancer on low (20%) with this would the DDIII's be too much heat?

dshawhan,

I still have the stock turbo BUT, I rarely tow anything more than motorcycles. The heaviest I have towed with these injectors is about 8k with no EGT problems. I know there are some guys out there that tow heavy with the III's but most people recommend against it. Hopefully someone with first hand experience will chime in.

Not much help I know,

John

I have DD IIs

Dshawan:

I like my DD IIs and the rest of my setup. I tow a 16K lb 5th wheel and it works great. With one of the adjustable power boxes (TST, EZ tec. . ) you can pretty much control EGTs, running empty power, running Ford/Chevys power :D and towing power.

Personally, I'm not in the infinite power search. I have a great combination of towing, economy and power. My 3500 is scarey fast on power level 9. The only way I could be happier is to be twins.

Finally, I recommend you contact the Diesel Dynamics folks and tell them what you have and what you want to do. I've found them to be staight up folks who help you figure out what you need. May turn out DD IIIs will work for you.

thanks for the input. I will probably stick with the II's and know i won't melt anything down when i tow the 25k loads I tow in the fall and spring. thanks again for all the help and I appreciate it alot. Also wiredawg what clutch do you have, I know mine won't last and your set-up is similar to mine so i would like to know what you are using to harness the power. :D :D Thanks Again.

Your clutch will NOT last with either II's or III's, especially towing. If you are careful, real careful you can tow with III's and keep it below 1300. You can always downshift to get more air flowing through the engine when you tow. When I switched to the III's from the 275's I did not see that big of a jump in my egt's unless I went above level 5 on my Powermax but I am running an hx40.

I don't tow heavy, but I have hauled a 4000+ lbs. camper over the western states and Canada. I use a PE Comp with the DDIII's to control smoke. I usually leave it set on 2/1 and the highest temp I remember seeing (HX35 Turbo) was 1170 degrees going up some 6 to 7% grades at 65+ mph. On one occasion we were on Interstate 5 and had it set on cruise control at about 75mph. The grades and 40mph head wind never slowed us down at all and EGT's were always under 1200 degrees. I was thinking of going with the DDII's also, but I'm glad I went with the III's. Smoke really isn't an issue unless you want it - crank up the box! But I will say that EGT gets out of hand in a hurry with the box set to the max. But it's fun once in a while. :D I believe if you want to control smoke with the DDIII's, you would need a box. But I'm not absolutely positive about that.
