Hey David,
It looks great! I sent it to you twice hoping you'd get one of them. Just wish I drew it a little darker, but it works.

I just got an email from someone who installed a 2low,and he had great results.
Piece of cake.

I just got done lighting up my shift pattern on my 6spd knob (bored at work, hehe!).

MikeR and David_VT: "You are the MAN... "
Does that work or should it be "You are the MEN. . "?

What ever, It is a great drawing, even I should be able to make this work, and it is SUPER that it is posted for all to see.

Thanks a MILLION, I am off to the junk yard so I can make my BABY go SLOW

Thanks Mike for the diagrahm and David for posting it. I went to the salvage yard on Fri. and looked at two Civics and couldn't find any valves then looked on another Honda, sorry didn't get the model and found two valves located by the drivers fender and cowl area got all the other pieces needed went home made a bracket for the valve installed it and the switch and presto 2 wheel low, works great. Now baking up should be less of an adventure by being able to go slow and easy.

Thanks again,
Paul

Flatlander:

I had just sent this E-Mail to MikeR, After your post I decided to copy it here. Maybe I am doing something wrong or am not understanding. Any Help would be appreciated.

Letter to MikeR:

MikeR,
Sending this to you directly as I was not sure you would be reading all of the threads.

I went to the Junk yard yesterday and checked several Honda Civics. All of the valves I found were normally closed (when I blew in the rubber line it would not go through until I hooked power to it, then air would pass. I think I am understanding you to say that the valves needs to be opened (air to Pass through) until you put power to it than it would Close (no air to pass through). I stopped at a Honda dealer and they said they did not know the "normal state" of the switch. They wanted the model year of the car. Stopped by an auto parts store and both of the switches they had were normally closed also.

Sorry to be such a pest but could you give me any other information. (A part number would be GREAT)

As a side bar. I left the junk yard and stopped by Home Depot, and a couple of other places, then on to lunch. Went in to wash my hands and noticed BLACK circle marks on my lips from blowing on all these vacuum lines. LOOKED LIKE I HAD BEEN SUCKING ON A TAIL-PIPE!!!! Everyone I had seen between the Junk Yard and BurgerKing must have gotten a real laugh.

Thanks for all your help,

Mike & Dave,

Thanks for getting that diagram posted.
I think the deal would be real handy for going up long, steep, slow, paved hills so you could use low range in third (or second) and get your torgue converter to lock up.

Hi all,
As I told Dave,The switch was for the 84-87
Civic and is small and rectangular, about
1x1-1/2in. The body is metal and kinda gold colored with orange plastic nipples.
Really, any vacuum switch will work... just blow through it to make sure its 'open' when there's no power to it. The Honda dealers want about $80 bucks for the switch.

Another thing... Be very careful when using 2wd low. Your transfer case low range mode multiplies the torque by 2. 72 and is now sending all that power into one driveshaft instead of dividing it into two(like in 4wd low). So don't stomp on the go pedal(careful BOMBers)! My truck is BOMBed(660tq) and I don't have the 241HD,so I have to creep carefully.

Those vacuum switches have 3 ports and usually 2 of them have a hose connected to them. The 3rd port has a little filter on it and when the solenoid is turned off it connects to one of the other 2. This allows the vacuum to be bled off, otherwise the vacuum would be captured in the lines and componants. That filter just pulls off like a hose, then you can figure out which 2 ports to use.

The posi lock kit helped Chebies which had problems getting 4wd to engage, or so I have heard. I would prefer not to have a cable down there to kink, get rusty, dirty, etc. The BD 2-low kit is easy to install and works well. It costs around $90 and has a high quality vacuum switch, the same well-proven type as used in exhaust brakes by BD and Pac.
