Hey Bob,

This will be my next brake... If you want... go ahead and send it to me and I will report back my findings... . :D :D :D . .

Seriously. . I like the idea of not having or needing to change the exhaust springs on my 12v to get good results from a brake. I also like the idea of the brake down stream in the exhaust system to let the exhaust gas stabilize before going by the butterfly when its open...

Keep me posted on how you like it...

Bob:

I have used mine since 96K miles. Now at 259K. I don't know about other brands but mine has been great and I don't think I could tow without it. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't even try.

Preston,

How do you like your O/U drive from U. S. Gear? I have a 3. 54 and the RV I am thinking about in the future is fairly heavy. I was thinking of changing my diff to 4. 10 but could do the O/U (run better ratios when needed and 3. 54 when not loaded) and be more in the CTD power band.

DO you find you actually use your O/U? as much as you thought you would when you installed it?

Bob:

The OD unit is used all the time. I tow a 14K lb work trailer and a 15K RV. The OD unit in my judgement is irreplaceable. I use it all the time. It takes the "strain" out of the drive line and keeps the rpm's in a 600 range. Stays in the power band. In the mountians you just will not believe the convenience. The brake and the OD unit for me was money well spent.

Preston,

I have been reading up on the USG. Is yours setup as an O or U? Seems there can be a heat prob in O.

I am going to tow 15k in about 3 years (going full time) and have a 3. 54 and was thinking of using it as a U for torque when towing. Using the straight 3. 54 when running empty.

The only time I had a heat problem was when I overfilled the unit. It takes one qt. Only one. Fill it like the rear diff and it will spew like a whale. Only one qt of Series 2000.

My OD unit is the 0. I do not tow with the overdrive. I also have the 3. 55 gears and tow at 68 mph at 2000 rpm. The over drive gets me moving to the towing speed with little stress on the truck. I would not recommend towing any overdrive gear. Any body the tell you "his truck never knows it's back there" is a liar. The truck knows it and it's your job to make it as easy on the driveline as possible. The overdrive unit does that. Get's you to towing speed with ease.

It works well for me.
