Archived Ugh 1688 code trouble shooting help

My 01 gave up the ghost . Just before, i had to replace back brake line rotted on top of the frame. Usually i do all the work but didnt have time. Better half went to pick it up and no fire(i think its her shes is like the plague to anything mechanical) they just test drove and parked it a half hour before. I run condition year round and allways replace the filters. Put a new lift pump in last year, love the cummins campaign. New crank postion senser both around 140,ooo miles. Currently 160,000 been parked because of high diesel cost and i love to ride my scoot. So towed it back home and stuffed it in the garage. Wensday if i have time will hook up the pressure gauge to test lift pump and crack open a couple injectors. Sounded like it was running ok when i bumped it over last night so what other test should i do before ordering a new vp. Scanner only gave 1688 code. I know there are some fuses and relays i can test but cant remeber which ones. any trouble shooting help would be grateful

99 percent of the time the 1688 is the vp

I think so too jest checked pressure at injector at least 10 lbs lift pump ok cracked 1st injector just a touch of diesel then nothing. Ill start shopping around for a new vp. Any good deals out there?

Thing that sucks is all that conditioner mechanic part is probebaly like new the electronics just crapped out. I been shopping for a class a pusher i thing im going to look for one with the older pump on it!
