Why Aren't There More Air Cooled Truck Engines?

FAST, cheap, and easy!

I seem to like the fenders on the Megacab Dually better than the other dually fenders. Not as big/silly/bulky, at least from the photos I've seen. I'm not sure how it looks in person as I have yet to see one however... That having been said I'd consider upgrading to a Megacab if they offered one with a long bed and increased GVWR to accomodate extra weight caused by bigger cab, etc...

I like the extended fenders on the Mega Cab dually. I wish my truck had them. Now if they only made a long bed version. I have no use for a short bed.

I've been to several rodeos over the last few weeks (TX and NM) and am seeing more and more of the Mega Duallys. The people I see buying them are buying for the utility, not their looks. People that are rodeoing need as much seating as possible so they can haul as many "hauling partners" as possible, especially the way fuel costs are. This splits the fuel bill up, and helps make it a viable activity. For junior rodeos, the extra space is needed for the kids. Either way, a real crew cab is very beneficial, and the Mega will be the most comfortable ride possible, at least for those in the back seat. I remember riding about 600 miles in the back seat (maybe "torture chamber" is a better term) of a first gen Dodge all the way to Colorado to a rodeo several years back. I was so stiff and stove up when we got there, I didn't know if I could compete or not! Roominess and comfort is important to these guys.

One guy I talked to criticized them saying, "they'll be crunching the cab corner in tight turns. " I mentioned that with trailers that big and heavy, a tight maneuver would probably pop a hub off an axle, and you shouldn't be turning a trailer that long and heavy that tight in the first place. I remember we used to turn the little light goosenecks back through themselves, but these heavy living quarters trailers have really changed the driving and towing requriements.

As far as the Mega dually's capacity goes, lots of guys here want to whine about the "available capacity" and GVWR and all the numbers, and make statements like "what a useless truck the mega dually is", but the point is, a dually handles a big trailer better than a single wheel. Most of these guys making a living with their truck don't give a *&^%mn what the rating is; they care about power, economy, stability, and stopping power. (I know, let the flames begin... )

Remember, the same complaints about looks happened in 1994 whent the 2nd gens first came out, then in 2003 with the 3rd gens, and now in 2006 for the Mega's and Mega duallys. Seems to me like "pretty is as pretty does," and the looks tend to grow on most people.
