Bombing?

Check out this 9/11 / Iraq honoring truck

I was reading this post about winter fuel and someone mentioned that ULSD is probably being shipped. The only signs I have seen on the pumps are stating that the fuel is over 500ppm sulphur (regular LSD?). But I have noticed that when I get on the skinny pedal my truck is`nt smoking as much as it used to, power/egts/accelleration all seem the same so I don`t think there is anything going on with my truck. I was wondering if it could be from ULSD? Anyone experience anything similar ?

The 500 ppm is the "old" fuel. ULSD is 15 ppm. Several stations around here with the new 15ppm ULSD. Filled my service truck up with it earlier this week and definately noticed the fuel itself has a different smell. Smells different burning too and definately smokes noticably less.

The 15 ppm ULSD was developed for that very reason.

With the intro of the new diesel particulate filters on all the new trucks, they are trying to get the particulate levels low so the filters don't plug up. The filters are self cleaning, but they can't process all the particulates that result from the 500ppm LSD.

I've seen test results on a 6. 0L and a 6. 4L Ford that showed before and after pictures of the exhaust pipe after the engines had been running for an amount of time.

The 6. 0L running LSD had the normal soot buildup on the inside of the tailpipe, the 6. 4 running ULSD was as clean as a brand new pipe.

FYI, the cutoff date for all reatil stations in the US to have transitioned to ULSD is October 15th. The only stations that are allowed to carry LSD after that date are those that requested waivers, and only 20% of the stations in the United States were allowed waivers for a few months after the cutoff date

That makes sense. My truck has never really "rolled coal", more of a dark grey haze. Now it`s an almost invisible haze, kinda nice as I personally don`t want to get any grief from the diesel "haters". Bad thing is, (if you want to call it bad) now I can use alot more of the skinny pedal without being to concerned about smoking out a soccer mom or something.

Smoke!

I've got a Smarty Loaner set on #9 with ULSD and I can tell you it smokes like crazy until the turbo catches up. Really impressive performance upgrade throughout the RPM range. It just keeps going and going.
