what options do we have once ULSD becomes mandatory? Will any damage occur to the 5. 9 if you run ULSD in them or will it be as simple as an additive at each fill- up?

The only problems with ULSD was in the transition period where the lubricity may have been off due to the fact it was mixed with LSD in the pipeline. But now that it's been around for a while that shouldn't be an issue. All fuel has to meet lubricity standards when it leaves the refinery, ULSD is no exception. Use additives if you wish, but IMO if the fuel was really as damaging as everyone speculated why isn't there thousands of trucks (semi's) stranded on the side of the road with engine damage? Especially considering the millions of gallons of fuel a large trucking company would burn in a year, and the fact that I can assure you that they're not using additives.

The new ULSD shouldn't cause any problems. They've been using it in Europe for years without problems. Plus, Cummins has known this was happening for years. A friend of mine works for Cummins and both he and the engineers have known it was coming about 7-8 years now...

Your all very trusting of the refiners. The fuel that's in Europe is 50 ppm, and is refined using a procedure that removes less of the aromatics than commiefornia does. This results in the retention of more good btu's-the very thing you want for better mileage, and efficency. The rest of the USA is using this refining recipe. But not here, we are the only state that uses it's own.

Don't you folks here remember, in 1996 when this state's air resources board mandated the ulsd (using an exclusive refining recipe so as to create an artificial shortage-and rip us off with the price) and all the heavy duty semi's had major fuel pump damage as a result?

Well I do, and the trucking co's sued the state (taxpayers) for the damage, and won as they should have. Too bad the corrupt state officials couldn't be held personally libel for forcing this on us to appease the econazi's.
