I remember awhile back that someone posted a link to a site where you can buy a kit to tell you if you have ULSD or LSD in your tank.

I tried searching the forums but could not find the link.

Anyone know or remember?

Thanks!

In the early days Dodge attempted to use specific gravity and color. It was not accurate and the spec gravity changed with temps... .....

My point is grandpappy has a few 45 gal drums of fuel on his farm. Some LSD and some ULSD. Did not mark them and does not know what is what... ... .

I would be more concerned with the quality of the fuel than its composition. Either one will work fine as long as the fuel is clean. :)

I would be leery of burning lsd in the 08... ... ... it will shorten the life of the very expensive hardware under the truck

Bob - That was where I was going with this. What I want to do is burn the ULSD in the 6. 7 and use the LSD in the old trucks and on the 1972 Deere. It really does preffer the old fuel so I would like to make sure that is what it is getting.

I kind of figured that... ..... Being that you have both side by side you should see and possibly smell the difference. The ulsd has more aromatics (fumes) as wellas different color.

Your kidding, right? You would really take fuel you know nothing about that has been sitting around in drums with who knows what in them and you want to run it in your $50k truck with an overly sensitive fuel system? It boggles the mind!

Run in the gen ones they won't care. Fill the 6. 7 with good fuel and save yourself the headaches. ;)

Let me know if you need some help sniffing the fuel, the biodiesel that we make just doesn't smell as good. :-laf

Nothing like a good snort of eau de #2 to make the day go faster. :D

Just as long as we aren't sniffing our rears to make sure they smell like grapes.

THAT simply will NOT be tolerated!! :-laf:-laf

Just a thought here.

For the next Ontario meet we could have a "Identify this diesel fuel" contest. We can have ULSD, bunker, bio, and LSD. He who sniffs them all right can win a free high!:D:D

If you guys would like to attend, feel free. I would love to have you experts there. :D

I can just see myself trying to figgure out how to do the magazine article for that Ontario Event... ... . and then I took my turn, and umm, I really don't remember much more other than I felt real good!:-lafOo.

I have a boating friend who swears that he can tell the cetane level of diesel by rubbing it between his fingers. Honest.

All I can do is shake my head... LOL

Would he like to come to the Ontario dyno /diesel sniffing day and give a seminar on this and how it is correctly done?;)

:-laf

Do you know about how many drums of each you have? If you cant identify the LSD and as a last resort, what about mixing a few gallons from each drum together. That way you’ll have something better than USLD to run in the tractor.

Identify that fuel

What a great idea, I think that it might have to make this years SOP. I have always thought that off-road fuel smelled better than the rest.
