Now that most pumps are ULSD 15ppm in my area I was wondering if there is still going to be a winter blend or if the ULSD is suitable for all seasons as it is. I use additive with anti-gel in it anyways but I was wondering because I know when they switch over I lose 1-2 mpg.

Discussions so far on that subject have seemingly determined that:

1. ULSD has the SAME gelling point as the "old" stuff - and,

2. The #1 diesel formerly used to mix for the "winter blend" so far has NOT had it's sulphur content reduced, so CANNOT be used with the new ULSD for blending a winter blend. .

If all that is true, and the individual refiners don't provide a proper anti-gell at their final distribution points, it will have to be done by the customers - problem is, how do we customers know for certain WHICH stations are pumping properly winterized ULSD? MOST of the time, even the individual station employees don't know! :confused: :rolleyes:

United Refining in Warren, PA is making ULSD in a winter blend... I would assume that everyone else is doing the same. They also have ULSD in a blend they call All Weather Supreme, which has cetane, pour-point, and detergent improvers.

Unfortunately, that refinery is most likely only serving a relatively small area in the east - and "assuming" other refiners are doing the same COULD leave a guy alone along some remote and lonely stretch of road.

Sure would like to see some reliable updates from across the country - meanwhile, I am pouring in my own "winter blend" of PS fuel supplement just to be sure... ;) :D

I've been wondering the same thing recently too. I have taken the hit in mileage recently, between 16 and 17 over the 18-19 I get in the summer. I was speaking with a Hess driver in Rochester NY last month, he said the new ULSD is good as is to about 0 F. If so, let it be; I would rather be responsible to add anti-gel when the weather dictates, than to have the refinery do it all winter, when the majority of our winters do not even come close to 0 degrees.

Winter blend fuel has been around for ages, my guess is, it still is.

OH, I have little doubt it'll all work out - but apparently the #1 diesel formerly used to mix with the #2 was still being refined at the LSD rate, rather than ULSD - so was unsuitable to mix with the new ULSD to provide a ULSD winter blend - at least that's what I have been hearing...

Ulsd

My milage had droped off with this new fuel and I see and hear of a lot of drivers having fuel leaks with this new fuel. My work truck Cummins N-14 had fuel line fittings start to leak after running the new fuel my friend's CAT is now leaking fuel and I had my fuel jell this morning at about 26 F .

So far I DONOT like this new stuff. :{
