P30 Mounts - front or middle engine

DKarvwnaris

Did you mount the P30 mounts front or middle?

Going to change my 4BT mounts and have a set for P30.

After a compression check.

If I remeber right, I mounted them forward. I seem to remember something with the the rear positions interfering with the flywheel/starter assembly.

I have since switched to the dodge bellhousing, dodge mounts, and gone with a hydraulic clutch setup. The parts are easier to find and I haven't slipped a dodge clutch, which the GM clutch was not a long life component for me no matter which one I used.

I sold/traded the last 4bt GM bellhousing adapter I had to Kenny at Autoworld for the dodge components I needed. With the nv-4500's 5th gear and DC clutch torque rating, I'll never go back to the p-30 mounts. The vibration is much less with the DC mounts than the P-30's ever were. No mods needed. I am going to try drilling the mounts when I get started on my jeep project again. I'm in the midst of moving again so everything is being packed up and sorted through. Thankfully its just 11 miles this time, not 2500 miles. I'll be starting on my Jeep's new tube frame in Sept/Oct timeframe. Everything is going to be built around the 4bt and the fiberglass CJ-5 tub. It'll be a long project, probably the last I do for quite a while.

I want to try a Suzuki 4wd repower with a VW diesel engine through the acme adapters website next. A nice light duty parts runner that I can keep from getting attached to. Too many unqualified uninsured driver's in this area to drive anything more attractive than a beater everyday.

My set is not LIQUID FILLED

My P30 set is cup-like rubber, in a circle, stud at bottom, fused into a metal sheild on top that has the stud. I haven't installed them, but likely will.

Very similar in design to the mounts on Newer mercedes diesel.

I search the internet and similar mounts; they sell pricey.

This topic will have many different opinions, and most of them will prove to be right.

I'm going to to what I think is best and not make a decision by committee.

Good luck with your project.

out of curiousity why are people skeptical to use the liquid filled mounts that come with the 4BTs in the bread vans? They seem to take the isolation very well and is what I am planning to use for my next repower, most accounts I've heard so far is they hold up fine off road as well. . ?

These are different than the mounts I have found in the P-30's I have bought before. I have picked up several Frito Lay trucks over the years and these are the first I have seen with a round isolator section.

I haven't used these before. I have used liquid filled mounts but they were different shaped ones.

So far, the Dodge mounts have worked well for me, so I haven't been in need to continue to search out other types.

The P-30's I have been buying were mid 70's to mid 80's retrofitted with the 4bt's. Maybe these mounts are a newer version for the redesigns in the late 80's models?... .

I may try these in my Jeep this winter when I get started on it.

OK, I have installed them

I found a set of the liquid filled P30 mounts. This weekend, I custom-fabricated a set of mount-supports. The mounts are in, and I have driven it.

Much smoother. Drives like a gasser.

Using the pan filled with water analogy, I went from sloshing it all out at idle to ripples in water. The most difference is in smoothness on the road. I accelerates like one of my Mercedes.

When I tightened the left front, I started feeling a lot more more vibration. Was binding. Loosened it and put 2 nuts on it with 1/2" play. I have a new set of transfer mounts arriving next week. I will install them and neutralize all four mounts. My left rear transfer rubber is gone, hence the warp.

More to follow.
