In the February issue of Truck Trend magazine there was an article on a '99 F-350 that was converted to a tandem-axle complete with hydraulic tilt bed and gear splitter to drive both rear axles. Nice truck, but this really should have been done with a Dodge Cummins. Has anyone seen this done to a real diesel? #ad

A while back Dodge had a concept they called T-Rex. It two drive axels + front for a 6x6, they said it could be a replacement for the dualies on the one ton. If you want to check out a 5er tow rig go to www.pickuptruck.com/html/news/supercrewzer.html Its may be a Ford but it has CAT power

THE only "advantage" *I* can see in the dual-driven axle setup is traction and load carrying - the PS engine in the F-350 is IDENTICAL to that in the 250's, and while the gearing with the commercial grade differentials can be selected to pull serious loads, road speeds and fuel mileage will suffer - and the additional drivetrain losses are increased as well...

The only other tandem drive pickup I've seen belonged to a super modified tractor pulling team. It was a 1980's Chevy crewcab with a stretched frame and custom bed that carried the tractor. This thing must have been 30ft. long. I was standing in front of it at the auto parts store and noticed the 6" dual stacks. I asked the guy what he had under the hood and he immediately grinned and opened it. Nothing under there but a huge radiator setup and four huge batteries. He motioned me to the rear of the cab where a Detroit 8V-92 Silver TTA was resting comfortably on the frame. Chrome and detail galore. I believe these were rated at 445hp. Behind that was a Fuller 14-6-13spd. roadranger trans. Full tandem setup with two speed as well.
This guy takes the words "super modified" quite seriously! #ad
