This was one of the headlines on our monthly news letter today. Seems our workplace is going to the ULSD with in about a month. The ULSD fuel contains 15ppm sulfur compared to regular diesels 500-700ppm of sulfur. According to the news letter the new fuel will reduce the output of nitrous oxide by 10%,carbon monoxide by 60%,particulate matter by 20% and hydrocarbons by 60%. The State of Texas requires local gov'ts east of I-35 and North of Corpus Christi,Tx to use this fuel by April 2005 and the EPA will require all local gov'ts to switch to the fuel by June 2006. I know this is old news on the ULSD coming mandatory in 2006, but kinda surprized me were starting now. I will be talking to the Fleet Services Manager here soon to find out about the lubricating aspect of the new stuff to us. At least we get to see first on the work vehicles how it's going to work out.
