Sorry if I am posting this again, I did search and browsed through some but nothing jumped out at me as for the information I am looking for and the issues I have seen over the past few months.

#1. According to what I read the biggest deal with ULSD is the lack of lubricant, yet there is a standard that it needs to be added back. BUT according to what I read they state "The biggest impact of ULSD is expected to be accelerated wear of highly sensitive fuel system components". Also stated was a TSB from GM "GM technical service bulletin issued last fall requiring it for use in the Duramax engine pump exchange program. "

#2. If the EPA is requiring this fuel and it ends up say a year or two from now that we start seeing major problems with injectors failing and pumps failing are they going to foot the bill ... . :-laf NOT!!!!

#3. My issue at hand, so far this has happend to me 3 times, last time resulting in a trip to the dealer and costing me $$ for time labor and an answer I did not want to hear. Basicly I do not put a lot of miles on my truck right now I have 60K on a 03. When ever I do run it out it's 99% a 50mile or more trip. So far I have had numerous times where the injector or injectors are sticking, last time was so bad the truck was rocking back and fourth like it had some wildass cam in it. So I figured one of them had bit the dust, off to the shop with it and had my guy take it home and drive it two days. He calls to tell me he's got nothing to tell me, added 2 bottles of Mopar Cylinder cleaner. Since the ULSD has been in my area I have probably filled up 10 times with it, changed the filter after 10K like always and still I think there is something going on here. The government is like the company I have work for since 1987 and they will only tell you what you want to hear unless they get caught in a lie...

Has anyone heard or maybe someone in the EPA or Government is monitoring this board and can shed some light on this. For me personally I saved for 6 years to buy my dream truck in the hopes that it would last me at least til I have to buy a Buick :D What I don't need is some pencil pushing bean counter causing me to have to sink $$$ into it before it's due.

Thanks!!!

I hope this is not in the wrong forum, I hate when I screw up like that... :{

It could be the fuel... mine does the loping thing too once in a while. I always attributed it to the quality of fuel. I run both PowerService diesel fuel additive and their Diesel Kleen. It seems to help...

I had this discussion a while back on another board, and this was the answer I was given. Raw LSD fuel can be more abrasive than additized ULSD. The magic number is 535, and most additized ULSD does indeed meet that requirement, however, non-additized ULSD doesn't.

IMHO, I would start using a good additive (look for the recent fuel additive study) and running fuel from a known good source (like a truck stop, if you don't already).

And don't sweat it if it acts wierd once in a while, I find that driving them hard once in a while helps smooth them out.

I personally simply assume that the ULSD is just like LSD in terms of quality and lubricity - POOR! ;)

And I continue to use the same sub-micron filtration to keep what my fuel system sees as pure and clean as possible - and add cleaning and lubricity additives to keep the rest of the system operating as best as humanly and $$$ possible...

Whether all that will get me trouble-free down the road as far as those who do absolutely NOTHING for their fuel systems remains to be seen... :-laf

Gary, how many miles on your truck now?

Gary, how many miles on your truck now?

Not that many - without looking, I think it's about 58K miles - sure don't put as many miles up here in Oregon as we did down in California, and hardly ANY winter driving, since the truck is 2WD, so we drive my wife's Ford Escape with it's full-time 4WD instead...

Makes it hard to do any of the longer mileage tests on various items as I have done before...

But with the high fuel prices, I guess I should count my blessings! :)
