My 2001 2500 4x4 is wearing the front left inboard brake pad very quickly :{ .

I replaced the pads and rotors with good parts and lubed the pins and glides but it's doing it again. So I am stumped? I thought that the caliper floated around the rotor (side to side) to get the running clearance, right?

I have ordered new glides and boots for the calipers.

Has anyone had this problem?

uneven pad wear

Mine's been doing that ever since it was new, and my daughters 98 is doing the same thing. I've checked everything I can think of and the way it's built I can't see how it's possiable. I just buy the autozone performance carbon metalic and let them worry about it. They've never questioned replacing them ( lifetime warranty). You have to keep an eye on it though or it will get into the rotor.

Wish I could be of help.

One other thing to check would be the caliper it self. My 97 did that on the right front. Turned out to be a sticking piston in the caliper.

Get a set of detailed calipers from EGR Brakes or similar. Uneven break wear is a common problem caused by sloppy machine work on OEM calipers.

Please see my reply to http://turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110024 I need to mention IMHO some of these really hard pads and especially those "lifetime" pads offered at Pep Boys, Autozone etc. can and do prematurely waste the rotors - they are often times harder than the rotors and/or heat up moreso than OEM/organic. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying all the HP pads do this, just the one's I've seen from the local quick parts places. I'm sure the one's offered / advertised on the TDR of stellar quality.

So Sounds like replace the caliper if lubing the glides dosen,t fix it... . Next weeks list of things to do.

thanx rich
