Walked out to the parking lot tonight after a fine Chinese meal and I swear I pushed the unlock button on the remote fob. The alarm goes off (factory installed). No button would shut it off. I even tried the key in the drivers door. Started the truck, horn still blasting and headlights flashing. I finally told my wife get in let's go. She was embarrassed, I a little less so. I had read in the owners manual that above 15 MPH?? or so the alarm will shut off. So I take it up to about 20 MPH driving past staring onlookers like I had just stolen my own truck and the alarm does shut off. Since alarms go off so frequently, I doubt if anyone was too concerned that I had just stolen the truck, at least no law enforcement officers showed up.

Anybody else experience anything like this? One other time I had the alarm go off, and I don't think I had pushed the panic button then either, but I was able to shut off the alarm.

Afraid to lock the truck now.

When my truck was new, I accidently hit the panic button, at 5am, when I bent down to unplug the extension cord to the block heater. A combination of bed head, the horn blaring in my ear and not being familiar with my truck had me running around the truck trying to figure out what to do. My neighbor happened to be up at the time and says he LHAO, especially when Mrs Doc came out in her robe and told me where to get off. :)

Shelby,

Last night was approaching my truck and knew I hit the unlock button square and with no fat-finger slop. The alarm went off.

Cycled the panic button (thinking I might have hit it). The panic on made the horn beep faster. Then another hit of the panic and everything normal and quiet.

Only difference was my meal was Italian. Maybe it is a Chinese thing.

I'm not taking it in. My wife has a Jag that has an alarm system that is really squirrely and they've never been able to figure out what is wrong with it.

My Chrysler also has an alarm and I have never had a problem with it. Don't know if they are the same systems - only difference seems to be the fob for the truck doesn't have a trunk button.

I had the same thing happen to me once when I jumped into the truck bed to move something and forgot the alarm was on. Nothing on the fob seemed to work. After its normal cycle time, (3 min?) it shut itself off. Grin, was just about ready to yank the horn wires when it shut off.

Never had that problem before, how did you get it to shut off or did it do it by itself?

In my case, it shut off, once I went above some threshold speed, I believe it is set at 15 MPH.

I will watch and see. If it continues to do this, I guess I will take it in.

Shelby,

Mine has done that twice. Both times I KNOW I pressed the unlock button. All I did was press the Panic button (and the horn blew a little faster) twice. Happened last night when I was leaving work.

I don't plan to do anything about it till it gets WAY more frequent. I have switched transmitters and will see if it might be a flaky transmitter.

When you accidently turn on the alarm, you have to push the panic button TWICE, within about 5 seconds-- I learned the hard way!! Set mine off two different times- went to the dealer and they told me how to do it. Does it tell us that in the owners manual??? NO!!! Larry

About once a week, my truck will honk the horn three times when disarming the alarm. It only happens after the truck has been sitting overnight. The manual says that this indicates the alarm has been tripped prior to disarming it. I know this isn't the case, as we would definitely hear the alarm should it sound at night.

Certainly not the same case as you have, but another anomaly I thought I'd throw into the mix. Sounds like a logic problem somewhere.

I'm pretty curious about this myself, I've had it happen about 7 or 8 times since I've owned the truck (since new). It only happens when the truck sits overnight, except once, it'd been sitting for a while though.

It's happened to me a few of times. Usually just fumbling around in my pocket or once even reaching to grab the keys. Wives and neighbors find it great sport.

Asked the dealer if there were some stronger springs for the key fob buttons; They gave me the crazy look.
