Until I solved my TC lock/unlock problems with the help of TDR members and Sun Coast I considered taking the truck to the local dealer for their reflash covering this problem. I hesitated as I do not trust them not to add other flashes that could reduce the power. Has anyone had a bad experience with a sly dealer slipping unauthorized flashes in on you when your rig was in for something else? I'd be PO'd if I got my ride back and it was down on power or had other performance issues.

:-laf You sound a bit paranoid... ... ... .

there is actually a flash that will increase your power... ... ... ... ... ...

I want to get that one, Bob. Is this true? I'll go and I guess I'll just ask for it. What is it referred as? Thanks.

Is this reflash called the smarty flash or are you serious there is a OEM flash that ups power for a 99' like mine?

There is nothing really good ,And no matter what the dealer tells you about the Newest and greatest RE flash, It's just not true .
And yes ,They will do a RE Flash Without you knowing about it
They do it all the time #@$%! I witnessed it
Do not trust The Dealers :-laf
Besides Chrysler dodge May not be around much longer
I heard fiat bought them out i don't know if this is true or not Or just rumor .
I can't imagine How much longer Chrysler Could stay in business With all their buybacks .
My opinion they just need to go under Along with GM Which I think will happen soon .

I do vaguely remember there were some re-flashes for emissions many years ago that did end up reducing power. This is going back into 2000/2001. I honestly can't remember what they were really for, but if you can dig back into the archives here, you might find them.

Paranoid? Perhaps. The truck runs great and I would not want anyone messing it up. My dealer wanted to re-flash it when I took it in for a recall on the trailer hitch. I insisted the service writer print ~ DO NOT FLASH~ on the paperwork before I would leave it. It was big deal to get him to do that!

Soot4life

Dont know if your aware or not the service bulltins are all listed by model year on the home page under Site features. Hope this helps.

There was an emissions recall that dropped mileage and power,a bit later we got the power and mileage back plus better drivability. It does not compare to an aftermarket uprate though.

Us automakers do care... ... ... .....

With all the car industry bashing going on of late it may pay to read this for a different perspective...

> CNN Headline News did a short news listing regarding Ford and GM's contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and Washington.

> The findings are as follows.....

> 1. Ford - $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees.

> 2. GM - $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of Vans, SUV's, and Trucks.

> 3. Daimler Chrysler - $10 million to support of the children and victims of the Sept. 11 attack.

> 4. Harley Davidson motorcycles - $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the New York Police Dept.

> 5. Volkswagen - Employees and management created a Sept 11 Foundation, funded initial with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC.

> 6. Hyundai - $300,000 to the American Red Cross.

> 7. Audi - see VW

> 8. BMW - Nothing.

> 9. Daewoo - Nothing.

> 10. Fiat - Nothing.

> 12. Isuzu - Nothing.

> 13. Mitsubishi - Nothing.

> 16. Subaru - Nothing.

> 17. Suzuki - Nothing.

> 18. Toyota - Nothing despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001. Condolences posted on the website .

> Whenever the time may be for you to purchase a new vehicle, keep this information in mind. You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American-owned and / or American based company. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States ... It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe we should not forget things like this. Say thank you in a way that gets their attention.

> ++++ Pass it on, I just did. ++++

they can only download one tune and it takes care of everything pretty much, you can't just go in there and choose to have one tsb fixed and not the others, just doesn't happen that way.

Disaster Relief Efforts

Re: Honda Contributions to 9-11 Recovery Efforts

December 2, 2008

Shortly after the devastating events of September 11, 2001, an Internet hoax was launched claiming that CNN had reported that many international automakers, including Honda, had failed to contribute to the corporate response to the 9-11 tragedy.

In fact, not only did Honda make a significant contribution to several 9-11 funds, but the reality is that no such CNN story was ever broadcast. This false allegation was a complete hoax. Today, documentation of this hoax is featured on snopes.com: Urban Legends Reference Pages, URBANLEGENDS.COM and other myth-busting sites.

Now, seven years later, it is unfortunate that this same hoax has reappeared on the Internet. While we made our contributions in the same humble and positive spirit as many other corporations, we now feel compelled to re-state the record regarding Honda's significant response to the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

For the record, the Honda family of companies and our associates contributed in excess of $1. 5 million in support assistance and products to aid recovery efforts and to help victims of 9-11 cope with their devastating losses. The bulk of these funds were contributed to the United Way of New York "September 11 Fund," and to the American Red Cross.

Honda products contributed to the recovery efforts included donations of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and generators to help rescue and recovery workers quickly navigate the difficult terrain around the World Trade Center and commercial generators donated to the American Red Cross for use in disaster-relief efforts, including at the World Trade Center site.

Honda is honored to have participated in these efforts. The following is a history of our ongoing communications in this area.

Update - September 28, 2005 - In response to further destruction in the Gulf Region caused by Hurricane Rita, American Honda has requested to the American Red Cross (ARC) that the company's $5 million assistance pledge be utilized for general hurricane disaster relief, addressing the needs of those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

At the same time, American Honda continues to coordinate with the ARC and local, state, and federal relief agencies to determine the need for Honda material support, including portable generators, water pumps, all-terrain vehicles, personal watercraft, off-road motorcycles, and passenger vehicles, in the affected areas. In addition, American Honda Finance Corporation's (AHFC) Disaster Relief Program has been extended to cover families affected by Hurricane Rita.

September 2, 2005 - In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, American Honda today announced a pledge of $5 million to the American Red Cross - Disaster Relief Fund. This contribution from the Honda family of companies, its associates, and dealers includes direct corporate contributions and special employee matching gift programs. Honda also is making available portable generators, water pumps, all terrain vehicles, personal watercraft, off-road motorcycles, and vehicles to agencies working in the affected areas.

American Honda has been in close communication with the American Red Cross (ARC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide support for relief efforts in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The ARC already has at its disposal twenty 12,000-watt Honda generators for use at emergency relief centers around the country. These generators are maintained through annual corporate contributions from American Honda.

Since both the ARC and FEMA have emphasized that the greatest current need is funding to support on-site emergency response teams, on August 31, 2005 American Honda implemented a special corporate matching gift program for its associates, contractors, temporary employees and retirees who would like to make a personal donation to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The company will match donations made by Honda personnel to the American Red Cross - Disaster Relief Fund on a dollar-for-dollar basis with no total limit to contributions. Donations made to the Disaster Relief Fund provide food, clothing, shelter, and other basic necessities to those forced from their homes.

American Honda Finance Corporation (AHFC) also has initiated its Disaster Relief Program that provides payment extensions and other accommodations to customers affected by this tragedy. Every effort is being made to provide assistance to AHFC customers.

The effort to provide support includes the efforts of many different Honda operations. For example:

• Honda Manufacturing of Alabama in Lincoln, Ala. , has responded with a corporate contribution to the ARC Disaster Relief Fund and is standing by as requested to provide additional support.

• Honda of America Mfg. in Marysville, Ohio, is matching associate contributions under an annual program to local United Way agencies, some of which are providing resources to assist in the relief effort.

• AHFC offices in Atlanta, Ga. and Dallas, Texas are helping to provide food and other support to local charities that are accepting evacuees from the disaster areas, and AHFC corporate contributions are also being made to these charitable organizations.

American Honda will continue to work with the ARC and FEMA to determine any future need for Honda products.

I can only express hope that this infuriates and sickens each of you like it did me. Whenever the time may be for you to purchase or lease a new vehicle, keep this information in mind. I ask that you choose a product made by an American-owned and based company. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States. It`s OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis.

Makes you proud to drive a Chrysler Product!

This is very interesting. It's no wonder why Michigan is so loyal to the Big 3.

After seeing a short news listing on "CNN Headline News" regarding Ford and GM's contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York City and Washington D. C. , I was prompted to see what the other automotive companies were contributing. I have never worked for an automotive company -- nor has anyone in my family. It is, however, the prominent industry here in Michigan. I also feel it is important to know which companies are there for us in a crisis.

I went to (the news, press release and philanthropic areas of) each of the companies web sites. If the company had several sites, I tried to visit them all. Additionally, I visited the leading news and automotive sites. As of today, one week since the attacks, this is what I have found:

Aston Martin - Nothing.

Audi - Nothing. Audi's web site states "Audi News: Always up to the minute. "

BMW - Nothing despite other press releases/postings since 09/11/01. BMW's web site states "The news service from the BMW Group: Fast, informative and comprehensive. " Last updated 09/13/01.

Daewoo International - Nothing.

Daimler Chrysler (includes Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz and Plymouth) -$10 million to support the children and victims in addition to other donations from their employees, dealers and suppliers.

Fiat - Nothing.

Ford Motor Company (includes Jaguar, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury and Volvo)- $1 million to the American Red Cross, matching employee contributions to the American Red Cross and 10 Excursions to the New York Fire Department. The company has also offered emergency response team services and office space to displaced government employees.

General Motors (includes Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac,Saab and Saturn) - $1 million to the American Red Cross, matching employee contributions and a fleet of vans, trucks and SUVs.

Honda (includes Acura) - Nothing. Honda's site states "If you're looking for the latest developments taking place at Honda, you've come to the right place" and "Informative. Timely. Credible. The latest news on Honda can always be found right here?" No press releases/postings since 09/04/01 when the release boasted "American Honda Motor Co. , Inc. recorded its second best sales month ever in August ?" My search included: hondamotorcycle.com (other press releases posted on this site since 09/11/01), honda.com, honda2001.com, world. honda.com, acura.com and honda.co. jp.

Hyundai Motors Group (includes Kia) - $300,000 to the American Red Cross.

Isuzu - Nothing.

Mitsubishi Motors - Nothing. Mitsubishi-motors.co. jp site states "The latest news about Mitsubishi Motors. " I also searched mitsubishimotors.com.

Nissan - Nothing despite other press releases/postings since 09/11/01.

Porsche - Press release with condolences posted on the Porsche web site on 09/12/01, but no contribution.

Subaru - Nothing despite other press releases/postings since 09/11/01.

Suzuki - Nothing.

Toyota (includes Lexus) - Press release with condolences posted on the Toyota web site on 09/14/01, but no contribution despite earlier press releases boasting that Toyota had high sales in July and August.

Volkswagen - The employees and management created a Foundation, funded initially with $2 million, to assist the children and victims with humanitarian help including medical and psychological assistance, rehabilitation and scholarships.

I can only hope that it is an oversight by the companies that have not made a contribution and that they will join the relief efforts. We have the freedom to choose which companies we make purchases from and I, for one, will make my purchases from and give my money to the companies that are giving their money to America at this time of need. I hope that you will, too. Please forward this e-mail -- especially to anyone you know who is thinking of purchasing a vehicle.

Comments: First off, these charges are almost entirely false. Most of the companies acc[/B]used of making no contributions to September 11 relief efforts did, in fact, contribute money and/or resources. In some cases, the non-U. S. companies mentioned are owned by or partnered with American companies who gave generously. Directly or indirectly, every one of these auto manufacturers supported the cause.

Secondly, an important bit of information was lost between the early version of the message (immediately above) and the later one (top of page): the roster of supposed contributors and non-contributors did not originate on CNN, but rather was the result of a Web search by the anonymous author of the email, who stated: "I went to (the news, press release and philanthropic areas of) each of the companies [sic] Websites. If the company had several sites, I tried to visit them all. Additionally, I visited the leading news and automotive sites. As of today, one week since the attacks, this is what I have found... "

The flaw in that methodology is obvious. Just because reports of donations couldn't be found online doesn't mean none were made. The author jumped to unjustified conclusions.

For a detailed rebuttal, I bow to the excellent research of Bob Storck, Sandra Kinsler and Mark Maynard, who published their findings in Woman Motorist magazine.
