Fuel Filter Change TDR#52

Check this carnage out...

*sigh* I don't put it past the state/federal government. First they want us to help the environment, then when we take our own measures it's not "their" way.

WOW!!! I want to keep track of this article and see what happens. The comments that people have left are right on the money.

First off, you are dead wrong..... they (government) does not want you (Joe Public) to find way to ease environmental issues. They what the large cooperations to do that, they only need you to buy there products and make sure the cash flow remains status Que (big business gets all the profits, and government officials get there kick-backs).

I am not in the least surprised by this article. Let this be a warning for all that read it, If your going to make your own fuel, you need the proper paperwork and any license required by local and state authorities. I'm not against anyone that that has the stones to go Thur the process of making their own fuel, I just want it done right. Making your own home brew(diesel substitute) involves the use of several acids and other chemicals, that process the vegetable oil or what ever it is your using. There are necessary steps that need to be taken, before anyone starts making diesel substitute fuel. I would not want the guy next door to me to be making it out of his own garage. There are dangers associated with these process, and the many safety issues (public safety, environmental safety not to mention the flammable dangers associated with ANY fuel). The reason there are rules, is so everyone knows what is going on, who is responsible, and if there is a problem, what are the dangers. I applaud the many that take the time and effort to do it right. This seams to be very reasonable alternative to the ordinary use of diesel fuel, and may well be the fuel of tomorrow. But one can not overlook the dangers, rules and licensing requirements to get their when others play by the rules. Sorry, I guess I'm not the most popular guy around here, but I never worried about that before so why start now.

UN-fortunately, what this article is going to do is drive the many illegals under ground, making law enforcement even tougher. And I suppose there will be a huge lot of UN-used bumper stickers available.

Maybe you should have read the article a little closer. This guy was not running biodiesel it was wvo(no chemicals) Or maybe we should start regulating the quart of cooking oil in our kitchens. These guys are tipical tax agents and nothing more. While i do think road taxes should be paid by everyone on the road regardless of fuel type the thought of having to post a 2500 dollar bond becouse hes burning veg oil is ludicris.

Okay correct me if I am wrong, and keep in mind this response is not heavily researched...

The kits that are sold to run on soybean oil are simple. It does not involve blending or making your own fuel. It involves a large fuel tank, a big fuel filter, and a fuel heater to the tank that is typically heated from your own vehicle's coolant.

Next step, you head to some restaurant, tell them that you will take their cooking oil off of their hands, and you pour it into the fuel tank and let the $1200 setup do the rest of the work.

Am I off track here?

Y-knot, you are probably right on legally, but give me a break here, this is USA, land of the free. Who is the state gov't to say what we run our vehicles on?? It's all about $$$

well the email went through both ways, but i got the addresses right of nc gov website. And to cogginsp yes you are right. Other than filtering it before you put it, in thats just about the jist of it.

Question: Will the hybrids and future all electric vehicles (like GM's EV1) be required to pay road tax for the KW of electricity used to charge their batteries? Yes, give it time...

Y-Knot is wrong. There are no more volatile substances used then what you have in your shop or kitchen to make biodiesel. There is alot of effort and time involved in producing consistent, good quality fuel.

i'm so p!ssed

this kinda cr@p will be the end of america eventually

i had zero idea those taxes/laws existed

anyone wanna take a guess who's lobbying those laws into place?

this tax is like the fee for a marriage license..... it's just a gouge.

GODD@MMIT

think i'll send that office an email that just says "F U"

what about the ROAD tax????

I mean at what point are you responsible for road and traffic costs??? Are you advocating Toll ROADS???

And furthermore...

"The tree of Liberty must on occasion be watered by the blood of Patriots"

- Harpo Marx

(Or was it Thomas Jefferson?)

We had better be ready for what will follow, and there will be a lot of blood shed. The government of this country is in direct opposition to the will of the People and any tyrant, be it individual citizen, bureaucrat, or corporate entity, will be a target for those of us who know what the stakes really are.

the worst part of this is that when it does hit the fan, all the folks (politicians, lobbyists, our president, CEO's... . etc. ) who get rich using the American people's hard work and pay, will just pack up their fortunes and move to europe and leave America behind like a used daiper..... and probably steal what they can on the way out the door.

in this case the guilty will never pay much, outside of having to relocate.

imo

I didn't read the articles (don't care to either), but what I'm gathering is someone got hammered for evading road fuel taxes? This is the second time... another guy got busted in CA for using his own Bio... the local gas station turned him in to the DOT/IRS! This happened a few months ago.

I don't condone using red fuel... just because its cheaper, doesn't make it right (using on the highway). If it weren't for taxes, there would be a lot of stuff we all take for granted that would not exist. However, IMO, making/using homebrewed bio/WVO is no different than making your own wine at home... as long as you don't sell it, you should be able to make so much per year.

And these guys getting busted... are they completely stupid? I mean most people understand the laws/taxes... why should they be exempt? And if you are that "obvious" that you get caught, you shouldn't have been advertising the fact your homebrewing as much!!!

And to add, I don't think ynot was too far off... they want to be able to control the QUALITY of the fuel being used on the road, they can't control the type/quality of fuel every homebrewer is making... and it could vary in quality widely (and in their eyes, be WORSE for the environment).

And another thing... chances are, you'd never have anything said to you if you bought a tank (or even a few gallons) of fuel once in a while... as long as you have a receipt showing you bought "real" fuel somewhere... and blend your homebrew with it... make the 5 gallons you purchase end up as 20 gallons in the tank!

Well, running home brew and not paying the road tax is illegal. Fact is fact. But punishing/fining the <1% that do this is absurd and infuryating. Another example of our out of control government. I don't mind paying to have roads but I don't like leaving it to government. I'd have no problem with all road being privatized and paying tolls. That's just the libertarian in me.

It seems most people here don't like this and I couldn't agree more. But how many people on this board know who their Senators and Representatives are? How many have ever send a correspondence to their representatives in Washington? How many send the children off the the same insane government to be edcuated? How many are depending on this government for their retirement and, all too soon, healthcare? (Good luck with both of those. ) How many have every heard of HR 25, the FairTax? This would be the largest tranfer of power from the gov. to the people since 1776. Hummm..... haven't heard of it. Well, it would get rid of the IRS these tax issues.

Retorical questions to get you to think a little. My answers to these questions have made me come to the conclusion that this country is done. It hasn't been a free country in a long time and if you think it is, you are sadly mistaken. I have and do spend a lot of time gathering info for my escape. I doubt I'll be here in 20 or 30 years. Fact is, people in this country don't want the responsiblity of being free. This issue is just one more example of how we have allowed the Imperial Federal Government to get completely out of control.

One more thought. The people that make up this board are the ones that make this country go. We are mostly, WASP men and we make things, fix things, grow food, move things and employee people. We tote guns, hunt, fish, play sports and go to church. I have noticed that over the years that is group is being demonized by the left in this country and the world for these very things. I wonder where this is going and if there is a point where this group fights back (with the pen, votes, force) or just continues to roll over and play nice little subject/Citizen. I don't know. But I am very pessimistic about this country's future. Fines for running soybean oil, can't say I'm suprised.

Food for thought for a group I respect and identify with. Next on the soapbox please.
