Smarty version number mismatches

Quadzilla beta test in progress WOW!!

I noticed today while checking my oil that the factory insulation that is attached to the underside of the hood has ripped out two of the attchment points and is sagging low enough to rest on some of the passenger side of the engine when the hood is closed. I worry that it could contact the turbo housing and catch fire. It is also rubbing on the return line for my by pass oil filter.

The insulation looks like it had gotten wet or is just old and kind of dry rotting. When u touch it, it just rips more.

I had been planning on redoing the insulation for a while, even before this happened with some of the foil faced insulation that Geno's sells/used to sell. I already have it but had not gotten around to doing it.

One of the questions is: Is the insulation even really needed? Does it get hot enough that there would be damage to the paint on the outside of the hood?

Or is it more of a sound dampening issue?(Which I really dont care about).

If not I may just rip the old stuff out and leave it be. Or may rip it out until spring when I'll have more time to work on my new liner.

Any ideas/suggestions/experiences???

See my signature for the truck in question if needed.

Thanks in advance,

I have a 02 and it came from the factory without the insulation. Just a little louder standing next to it. I like it.

My '02 came without hood liner too. I sprayed Quietcoat, as I did with the entire cab interior, as well as the cowl, inner fenders and fender liners, oil pan, and a few other spots. . It'll never come off or burn. It takes the edge off the noise, especially the higher frequencies. You still can't stand next to the truck while it's running and hold a conversation without talking loud.

I pulled the insulation off as it looked so crappy and due to my fire hazard fear. It looks better now and I cant really tell a difference in noise, even parked in my garage idling. I do have that foil faced insulation and the piece I have is big enough to make a new liner, which I just might do as it I think the silver would look pretty cool, LMAO.

Thanks for the info,

I took mine off over a year ago. It was loose and in my way for some wiring I wanted to run. As far as I know it is sound deadening only. I can't even tell that much difference in the sound with the hood closed.
