We had been looking for a lightweight, but secure, bed cover for our truck. We also wanted something we could easily take off for hauling big loads. After looking at more brands, types, etc then I care to think about, I saw a picture posted of a TDR member's father's Undercover tonneau. It looked good, so we gave it a try.

The install took about 20 minutes. The outcome looks greats (IMHO). Has four mounting brackets. One on each end of the front bed panel. One on each side at the back that butts up against the rear back panel, which means no liner shifting under heavy acceleration (not that we do such things :D ).

Fit is very good. Finish is textured with a mild sheen/shine. Can be painted, but we like the black against the Deep Molten Red of our truck.

Lastly, it's supposed to be weather tight and looks like it will be.

Bottom line: We're Oo.

CumminFast, sorry so I didn't reply sooner... very busy.

Try: http://www.undercoverinfo.com/

I can't do pics right now, but will try next week. The web site above has a lots of good pictures in their picture gallery.

I tried to do a search for the thread that originally had the picture posted, but the search failed. Still some problems, I guess.

What I like about the Undercover is:

1. ) looks GOOD (INHO);

2. ) very easy off, including rail mounts if you want to load the bed,

maybe 10 minutes.

3. ) very easy on, maybe 15 minutes.

4. ) paintable, but I like the black with the color of our truck.

5. ) 58 lbs for the biggest, which means ours is somewhat less - 6ft bed.

Pay Close Attention to the Hinges Before Buying Undercover

I hope you have better luck from you UnderCover than I've had. My UnderCover arrived with the female hinges on the cover installed incorrectly, and UnderCover will not replace the cover or refund my money.

The female hinges are off 3/16" fore-aft AND 1/4" side to side, and UnderCover says this is within their tolerances. With the cover pushed to the driver's side as far as the hinges allow, I have 1/8" clearance between the bed on the driver's side and 3/8" clearance on the passenger side. And UnderCover says this is OK by them. However, aside from the poor appearance the difference in clearance creates, I'm concerned about the cover rubbing the paint. The ID of the female portion of the hinge assembly is 3/8" larger than the OD of the male portion of the hinge. This allows for the potential than the cover can move 3/8" in service, however, I only have 1/8" clearance to the bed. It's obvious that there is a potential for the UnderCover rubbing the paint, but UnderCover says this is within their manufacturing tolerance and is OK by them. I'm using wire to hold the cover over to the driver's side and even then I only have 1/8" clearance. In addition, if the truck is parked in the sun, the top potion of the cover expands more than the bottom portion and the result is that the covers bows up in the middle and draws the sides end toward the bed. This reduces the clearance between the cover and the bed to only 1/16" on the driver's side. I find this a concern to me, but UnderCover says this within their tolerance. The hinges on the cover itself are riveted in place and are not adjustable.

If you bought a truck that had a door gap of 1/8" on one side and a 3/8" gap on the other side after all adjustments where made, would you think this is acceptable? If a carpenter hung a door for you with a gap on the hinge side three times the gap on the latch side, would you find this acceptable? Evidently, the owners of UnderCover would find this within the allowable tolerance and OK. I sent photographs proving the misplacement of the hinges, and UnderCover can only say it's OK by their standards. The hinges are so far off; I could have installed the hinges closer to the correct position without the aid of any measuring device. I only wished I had checked this before letting the delivery person leave.

This is simply a manufacturing defect, and I'm sure UnderCover can install the hinges correctly. But if there is a defect, UnderCover will not address the problem. I simply wanted a cover that fits and will not damage the paint on my $40,000 truck. My advice would be to verify the hinge placement on the cover before handing over payment.

I bought one here about two weeks ago and my only complaint is that I should have done this the day I bought my truck. It's looks and works great. I also added a bedrug so now I have a huge trunk that can be used. I also climbed on top of the thing while it was close and it held my weight (215lbs. )without a problem. I haven't taken it off yet but supposedly it only weighs about 50 pounds. Mine is also black but I think it looks better than the covers I've seen that are painted. Highly recommended.
