2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Underhood Protection

I have a question about the material that is attached to the underside of our hoods. Is it necessary? What does it do? Where can I get it at?

The reason I ask is after a heavy batch of playing in the mud, and washing the truck it just disintegrated. I do notice it to be a bit louder but with the muffler gone who cares!

It's there just to keep the noise down, on some new trucks it's an option. Dealer's the place if you want a new one.

It came on my 2000 did not come on my 2002, don't miss it. Would not pay to add it. JMO
