Our '99 Ram has just over 200,000 miles. Bought at 162,000 and I don't think the previous owner (pulled a 5th wheel RV) ever adjusted the valves, and I haven't. I haven't pulled anything but an occasional small utility trailer. The idle has gotten progressively uneven, mostly felt when slowly releasing or applying the brake - feels like a surge. I've used Power Service Diesel Kleen injector cleaner religiously and started using a little 2-stroke oil a few months ago (.25-.5 oz per gallon - seemed to quiet the idle).
Does this sound like valves that need to be adjusted OR the injectors are worn-out or dirty? Any good methods to troubleshoot whether it is the injectors? Since it's probably time to check/adjust the valves, IF this overwhelmingly sounds like the injectors, I'd like to do the valves AND replace the injectors - if needed - at the same time.
If injectors are necessary, I was thinking of a slight upgrade - maybe RV275 injectors (we may yet pull an RV trailer with the truck!)? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for your experienced answers!
