I picked up my new 2004. 5 Laramie, I am really happy with this truck but I was sure disappointed with the RB-4 "Navigation" radio. I (and the dealer) did not realize that this radio does NOT include any mapping capability, which was my only reason for getting it in the first place! Basically, the RB-4 provides only a "turn left/right" turn icon, voice prompts and directions, but will not display any streets or any other map information. I verified that the RB-1 and RB-4 are dimensionally the same, but to install an RB-1 I'll have to order an after-order "upgrade" kit to install an RB-1. The wiring harnesses are different and this kit is supposed to provide compatible connectors for everything. Can anyone tell me, will the retro-fitted RB1 still be compatible with the steering wheel audio controls, and will the RB1 display dim down in response to lowering the dash lights?
I probably missed an earlier TBD thread on this but thought I'd share this experience. Also, the RB-1 is NOT available as a factory option for the 2004. 5, only the RB-4 is.
