Boost/Pyro Guage Recomendations Needed

Just purchased this radio, had it tuned and peaked (6 watt carrier and 25-30 watt swing). Has anyone had any experience with this radio or other Uniden radios? I'm running co-phased Power Stick antennas, mounted with the special Ram mounts under the hood attached to the fender bolts. I have a 1:2 match on channel 1, 1:3 match on channel 40, and a flat match, 1:1 on channel 19.

I dug out my old CB gear (used in the late 70's) and found a 250 watt mobile linear, #ad
don't know if I will hook it up or not. I just want the radio for emergency, check for Smokies, and ask truck drivers why they cut me off. #ad

Haven't mounted the Uniden in permanently yet, I'm waiting to get the mounting bracket from our fellow TDR brother Mike Brolin. Mike said I should have it next week. #ad

BIGBOB--For what you want a radio for, you made an excellent choice. I was looking at that same radio for self. It'll probably do all you want a radio to do. As far as linears are concerned, I don't know squat, but I would imagine the new linears (and amps), would be smaller, run cooler?, and be more efficient. Hope someone will chime in here about linears, as I need to learn more also. Ron

Your going to need 9-12 watts to drive a 250 to any heights, especially if it is a HD Linear. With 6 watts out of your radio you can probable expect to push 80-90 watts out. Also expect a 15-20 amp draw on the linear so use some heavy wire when hooking it up, might draw even more. There were some bills in congress last year to allow your local police to confiscate your gear with only complaints from neighbors. Don't know if they passed or not but all thanks to our friendly amateur radio buffs. Check this link, http://www.coaxkid.com/ for items you may be looking for. The guy is easy to talk to and will set your radio or equipment up for you before shipment.

Jerry,

It is a LDO (Long Distant Operator) Bilineer made in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After looking at it a little closer, it is 100 watt AM/FM. If I remember right in sideband it goes to about 200 watts. I got this in the 1970'S. Worked extremely well back then, I'll have to see if it still works, haven't tried it yet. Are familiar with this unit?
