just a test....

OK - why NOT an electric Pickup?????

Hi everyone,

I got a job with a private firm and have relocated to Jordan (middle east). Weather is nice and going to the holy spots is amazing. The one thing that really caught my eye out there is how different the cars and trucks are. Naturally I just had to find out what was up with all these little pickups blowing black smoke everywhere lol. These pickup trucks are mostly crew cab short beds about the size of, say Ford Rangers. Just some of the diesels I have seen so far:

Isuzu D-Max 3. 0L Turbo and IC Common Rail or 2. 5L turbo mechanical

Toyota Hi Lux 3. 0L Turbo and IC CR

Nissan 3. 2L non turbo

Mitsubishi sportero 3. 0turbo & IC CR or 2. 5 turbo mech

Land Rover Defender diesels

ford ranger/mazda diesels 2. 5L

and my personal fave the Toyota Landcruiser LC70's. They only come in reg cab but are tough as nails and come with an Inline 6 or v8 diesel - the rest are 4 bangers. The Isuzu's are the most popular but close behind are the hi-lux (based on tacomas) and the Mitsu's.

Diesel is about half the price it is in the states and I have seen a few Cummins running around, two 12valve duallys and a 01 2500 ext cab SB balck sport that was for sale. It was nice seeing the Dodges, like being reaquainted with an old flame <3 <3 <3

If I don't get a landcruiser pick-up I am gonna have a cummins sent to me with the rest of my stuff in january so if anyone knows of a 5spd 12v for sale, send it my way:)

Thanks Everyone & Take care. . now I wonder if I can get the TDR mag sent out here:confused:

There's supposed to be a new style Jeep Wrangler diesel special for the militaries out there (Egypt I believe) It looks awesome with dana axles and all. Keep a lookout for it! Enjoy what we can't have! take pictures please- what is it you're doing there?

I am keeping a look out for that jeep. There are also a bunch of diesel mini vans running around lol. BTW I work for a private company thats sub contracted to do translation.

It sickens me to think about all the cool diesel rigs that are available outside the US...

But - someday... . SOMEDAY... we might start seeing more of them. ULSD is 'Step 1' in the right direction.

'Step 2' is to slowly change the public/consumer perception of diesels here in the US. Thank you Bosch and your common-rail goodness!

'Step 3' is to kindly, gently coerce the EPA into realizing the benefits of diesels and stop raking us over the coals (no pun intended) - much in the same way that THE REST OF THE WORLD IS DOING FOR CRYING OUTLOUD! ;)

Beers,

Matt

I was amazed when I went to Iceland in 1982 with all the cool diesel vehicles: 4 door Toyotas; 2 and 4-door Land Cruisers p/u's w/ straight sixes. Look how long it took just to get 4-door Toys in the States. The Icelanders had a Volvo diesel they could drop in a Suburban/Blazer that really rocked.

I hope we get a 4-door diesel Wrangler soon.
