Universal Joint Questions

Had to replace the universal joints on the front axels (2009, 48K miles) and drivers side was long gone, passenger bad shape. They were replaced with U-joints with grease fittings. The question is how often?. Type of Grease? This is a daily drive, NE about 23K per year.

The first set I replaced needed minimal greasing but I greased them when I greased the the front end. I'm now on the third set I've put in and the first two sets didn't seem to hold grease very long. The first set was Timken but still didn't last as long as the non-grease factory set. I don't think the seals are as robust as they used to be and they either let moisture in or grease out easier or both. I'm checking and pumping moly grease monthly on this set as a precaution. I'll be interested in hearing what others are experiencing... I'm currently putting 600-700 miles per month on my '97 3500 CC.
