Universal Joints Toast @ 49,500 Miles / Updated 2/21

After a quick search it looks like this is not an uncommon occurence.

QUESTION # 1 Are the replacement Mopar U-Joints any better ?

QUESTION # 2 For the guys installing the aftermarket greasable U-Joint replacement units do any of you have enough miles on the replacements to verify that they are holding up better than OEM's ?

Updated 2 / 21 / 06

DEALER DID HIS DIAGNOSIS THING AND CALLED ME AT WORK

Said they are going to replace the Universal Joints and the DriveShaft

and the Front Axels ?

I asked THREE Times and the Front Axels ?

Why the Axels, He said its all connected to the Unicersal Joints

Can someone explain ths to me ?

I just replaced mine at 41,500 miles. The only thing I can say good about the factory replacements is they are covered by the 7/70,000 warranty. The dealer I went to covered them under warranty without me asking.

BTW make sure you check your ball joints too. They don't last any longer.

I had the PA State Inspection done 2 weeks ago and they said the Ball Joints are still good to go.

Mine is in the shop for drive shaft U-joint replacement as I write this. 168,000+ miles. Still have the original ball joints too. Why do these parts hold up so well in some trucks and wear out so quickly on others? Jeff

I would like to know the same thing, I baby this truck so it's not abuse.

My wife says I drive it like an old lady.

Maybe that my problem, how many time have I read "Drive It Like You Stole It" on this site.

I just replaced mine, at 73k, just out of warranty. Figures. Had to get the factory ones to replace them, as the aftermarket joints don't fit without grinding. The new ones out of the package, were half greased, some had some grease, others were almost dry. Failure looking to happen again. I added some grease to all the caps. Now, lets see how long these last.

that didn't help mine last any longer ;) under warrnenty truck will get oem ones, after warrenty, it will get aftermarket ones that have a grease fitting in the cap, not in the cross [if anyone makes one like that. . ?]

Counting the original joints from the factory, I went through 3 sets by the time I was in the 70,000+ mile range. I'm now in the 140,000 mile range with the 351's ... ... ... thats 70,000 miles for these joints.
