unlimited slip axle

I have a 2001 2500 with the limited slip rear axle. when I first bought the truck it had 35k miles so I changed all the fluids since I didn't know how the truck had been treated. I thought I read on here that if you use synthetic gear lube you don't have to add the friction modifyer so I didn't. My problem is that the axle isn't holding like it did when I bought it, matter of fact its just like a single traction axel. So I guess this means I need the additive, yes?

The friction modifier creates less friction between the clutches and plates. So really you dont need it at all. When the l/s is new if you add to much friction modifier then the clutches will slip and if you dont add enough then they will wear out. More then likely this is what has happened since you did not use any the clutches wore themselves down to nothing and need to be replaced.
