I was on another site and saw a post about unplugging the MAP lead to the Comp Box - Supposedly produced more SOP (seat of pants) horses and big time more smoke. No affirmative dyno numbers though. And, some had good results some no change?

Specifically they would just unplug the MAP connection leaving the adapter to the comp leads plugged in.

Anyone try this? Is this Bs or what?

Joe, if you saw it on the DTR, BigBlue had a noticable improvement, some others did as well. Others saw little to no difference. I had my stock harness plugged in, not the Comp harness. Once I found this, and rectified the situation, my truck ran noticably stronger. I believe it depends on the truck. Who can call BS when it works for some, and not for others?

Worked for me ALOT. I don't know for sure about any extra horsepower I only drove around the block and revved it up in neutral alot because it would roll the smoke just revving it in neutral. That said i wouldn't run around with it unplugged all the time because the smoke is so hard to control, with the box on one it still smoked like a freight train, turn the box off equal to box on 1x3 on the smoke level (again just revving in neutral). so i plugged it back in but i kind of wish for a switch to kill the map signal to the comp. here is a picture of stock injectors on an HO, only reving in neutral. I read it on the DTR also.

After reading these posts I was curious so I unplugged mine and drive the truck around. It now produces a purity decent size crowd of smoke if u stomp on it with low boost, yet if u accelerate normally the smoke for me anyways is purity controllable. The only problem that I see my self having is that I never accelerate normally, can’t help my self, its as if the engine is just screaming at me to get on it. as for power i notested that my tirers were having a little trouble keeping traction at times.

Tiny - I did see it on the DTR. Just didn't know if it was OK to mention other sites on other sites. Don't wish to offend anyone - you know. Thanks again. I think I'll giver a try on unplugging the MAP lead to see if old smokey rolls out the 5" tip.

I wish I could get away with it with my FMS... . Chip has a low voltage warning when the MAP sensor is either dying or not connected.

my only guess is that it sends a fake signal for the low end to the computer. It wouldn't be hard to hook up a scanner to the obdII and see how the comp fools the computer.

This may be a dumb question, but I have to ask.....

Are there any negative effects from running around with the MAP sensor unplugged??

I never got an engine light any of the many times I did it. Maybe it has something to do with the reflash on the edge we have i think 8. 0 or something like that.
