Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) unplugged MAP with Edge Comp, what's it do exactly?

I've read bits in pieces in some threads mentioning unplugging the MAP sensor from the Comp harness, but leaving the stock MAP harness plugged into the Comp. This supposedly makes the truck smoke more. My question is how does this work and how is it different from just running the Comp on 5X5 for more smoke? Also, what are the downsides of this aside from the smoke, does it kill fuel economy?

Well I just unplugged it and she rolls some smoke from a dead stop till the boost comes on then it clears up just like normal. Driveability seems the same as before.

The way it works is when you unplug the map the computer "thinks" you are at full boost even sitting at idle. I can see this when I have my laptop plugged into the OBD connector.

It will make your truck smoke like crazy, but at the expense of some codes being set in ecm.

If you don't have access to a code scanner... Don't do it. The check engine light don't come on, but the code is set.

I have a code scanner, but it having that code apparently isn't hurting driveability or power any at this point, and no check engine light either.

I tried mine just to see. ran it for a day, checked codes, nothing. as long as the stock plug is on the comp plug, nothing will happen

Can the tst be done the same way if running stacked boxes? I know it wont work just unplugging the tst only(not stacked) but if the tst is piggybacked on the ez and you unplug it, it should still read boost off the ez right?

yeah, it will work. I know a truck with old edge pulse box stacked with an ez and it works the same.
