I just took a trip with my 04. 5, 2500, slt, 4x4, long bed, 4-door, towing a 6000 lb rv travel trailer, not a 5th wheel. The trailer has a weight distribution hitch with stabilizer bars. Before leaving I had new Michelin 265 70 r 17 tires put on the rear of the truck and I left the oem (same size) Michelin tires on the front with 22,000 miles on them.

After 4,800 miles into the trip the rear tires were worn out and the front tires showed little, if any, wear. The tire pressure was checked daily.

After returning I had the dealer check the alignment and suspension but could not find anything wrong.

I have towed this same rv with my 97 2500 with not problems.

The tire dealer has offered to replace the tires but suggested I try to find out if anyone else has had a similar problem.

I kept 75psi in the tires. There was a wear pattern, each of the treads were higher on one side then on the other. If you run your hand across the tire, it feels sharp going one way and smooth the other.

Mine were like that; tire store told me to rotate them more often.

We need more history on the truck.

New-It could have been tied down wrong on the hualer truck to the dealer. A four wheel Alignment shop could tell you if the back axle is out of wack.

Used- Could of had lift blocks installed and removed wrong. Four wheel alignment shop is you best bet again. I think you will find your back axle is not stright. Tires wear funny when one is leading and one is trailing. Had a 32Ft Dove tail trailer with this problem axles leaf mounts were welded on just off center and the tires will show it.

I bought the truck used with almost 18,000 miles on it. The rear tires were showing allot more ware then the front, but the ware was even and smooth on both tires. I took the truck to the tire store and they told me there was about 10,000 miles of tread left on the rear tires. They thought the uneven ware was because the tires had not been rotated. That's why I replaced both rear tires before the trip.

Now, the tire store says there is something wrong with the truck, and the truck Dealer says there is something wrong with the tires.

The dealer said they checked the 4-wheel alignment and couldn't find anything wrong.

Sounds like a on going problem if you changed the rear tires with 22,000 miles the first time.

My rear tires aren't going to make it to 30K miles if they keep wearing like they are. I drive in town a lot so I think they wear out faster. Even more so with the LSD. I definitely got better wear out of the tires on my '02 doing the same kind of driving.
