Hey gang. I am looking to upgrade my power without putting an undue strain on my driveline and motor. I confess some of the BOMBing is foreign to me, so plz bear with.

I was thinking that DD2s and an Edge EZ would be as far as I want to go. I DON'T want to replace the turbo or clutch just yet. I would consider BHAF and exhaust upgrades a reasonable part of the deal.

So, I ask: what are examples of fueling boxes vs timing boxes? How does injector size play a role when combined with the boxes?

I want a piggyback type box without having to splice into the pump wiring.

I am not willing to endanger my engine for more power. I bought this truck to have forever.

I do almost no towing now, but will likely do so in the future.

The short question: what slight upgrades are most worthwhile without turning my truck into a short-fused smoke generator??

Up a notch

I also bought my HO to last forever (or until I get the urge to buy another) and tow a 35' 5th wheel. I have the Bank's Git Kit (yes it does cost more than some of the other fueling enhancements, but I am not complaining, they have had excellent customer service) 275 injectors and the BHAF on mine and these enhancements have given me 135 HP additional. These numbers come from the 3 times I have dynoed from stock, to Git Kit, to injectors. The truck still gets excellent fuel mileage, is very towable and is a jet sled when you decide to plant your foot. This is far as I will venture with the stock clutch. I have had these improvements (not including injectors which have been in only for 4000 miles) for 36,000 miles with absolutely no bad effects. You can look at my signature for other items done to truck.

Good Luck.

Hohn,

I have a 2001 that I have the following to: 275 injectors, Boost module, VA box, and 4" exhaust. As soon as I put the VA on the clutch would start to slip. It seems that Dodge has used a couple of different types of linings on the clutches because some people have reported theirs slipping with simalar setups as I have and ohters have had more without slipage. So if you go with what you've listed be prapared for the fact that you may also have to get a new clutch or drop back on the power until you're ready to get a new clutch. On the other had you might me lucking and everything will hold together. Good luck.

On my truck (2001 ETH/DEE) 275s, an EZ, a BHAF and 4" exhaust rearward of the headpipe dynoed at 298 hp on winter fuel and at 3500 feet altitude last December. The stock clutch held up-although once I moved to the COMP I could slip it at will at levels 4 and 5. Some fellas' clutches haven't been able to hold even that much-some more. I think that 2's and an EZ would be pushing the clutch envelope... ... I have been wrong before though!

You need to post what rear gears you have. If you have 3. 54's, then try a box alone (this may be your clutch limit... trust me). If you have 4. 10's, then a box and dd2's will be plenty o' powa!

275's and any of the CPC type boxes should get you close to 300 HP.

If you have 3. 55 gears and larger tires, be aware that the clutch will eventually let go.

The limit on the stock clutch is about 700-750 FTxLbf

If you want more, have some cash set aside for a clutch.

The DD2's and the EZ are a great combo,go with the 2's over the 275's the ETH likes bigger injectors, and you already mentioned you dont wasnt a wire tap box,so make your power with the dd2's. You should have 330+hp at the wheels with the EZ,and 2's. You will need a clutch in all lieklyhood, but you'd need one with anymore than an EZ.

No clutch concerns...

I was in the same boat. I didn't want to tap wires or replace the clutch. I went with an EZ (with boost elbow) & 275's. I've sunk a skosh less than $600 into those two :D. I have quite a bit more power. I'm guessing I'm a tad under 300 h. p. , haven't dynoed yet, but others have that much h. p. with my same set-up. I haven't felt the clutch slip yet & and I occasionally tow a 9,500 lb. 5'er. I felt DD2's would be pushing the clutch envelope more than I felt comfortable with.

Pulling my 5'er I can come south out of Cincinnati on I-75. With my 3. 54's I go ahead and down shift it out of 6th to 5th at the bottom of the hill just into KY. I don't know the grade %, but its pretty step for about 2 or 3 miles I guess. I can EASILY hold 65 mph in 5th, and accelerate some if I need to. You should see the people's eyes, even gasser cars when I run by 'em. They look like this  Same thing going up Jellico. I'm getting to like the 3. 54's. Slight grades 6th gear is fine. When I get to significant grades, I put it in 5th and run 60 - 65 mph and the engine is around 2,400 - 2,500 rpm and sounds great!
