Probably comparable to Amsoil, maybe better! My Oilguard took my soot level down to 0%, just like they claim. I haven't seen any Amsoil filter users address this. How bout' it, Amsoil people, time to come clean! The thing is, the Oilguard is cheap right now. Craig

craig,if these filters remove soot does that mean that the oil does not get discolored?
how often do you have to change the elements?
thanks
bob

Craig - Questions about your install. Where did you mount the remote filter? How did you tap into the oil system to get and return the oil? Finally, how often are you changing your oil and regular filter with the Oilguard system in place? Thanks!

BTW, I was just in your neck of the woods two weeks ago. My wife is from Arvada. We were in town visiting her family and doing some skiing in Winter Park. I really like Arvada!

Soot?
That is a good question!
Considering I don't use the by-pass and don't have a soot problem anyway, I really don't know.
Has anyone had high soot problems?

It will not fit the Amsoil unit.

Gene, all diesels produce soot which is very fine particulate matter that we see as smoke and some of it does go to the crank case and gets mixed up with oil, thats why i asked craig that if in the analysis soot was zero then maybe the discoloring was not there too.

Gill,
I know what soot is, I meant it has not showed up on my samples as a problem!LOL!

Guys, I know nothing about this filter system, but from the picture it looks like a WATER filter from Wal-Mart!
Have fun!

OK, I got mine! Spoke with Mark's Partner Roy, Said 275 EPS20 filters left. Price for Filter can, installation kit (which comes with one filter), four extra filters, tax & shipping was $188. 66 Roy states that the filter will go nearly 30,000 miles before dirty enough to warrent changing.
Now to order stainless braided hoses from Mc Master-Carr and Swagelock fittings From Angeles Valve!

I would like to see how they remove soot. Soot is produced in sub micron sizes. This is what colors your oil. IT then starts to stick to another soot particle eventually becoming large enough to be removed. If this is how they say they remove soot, it is simply a play on words. Every filter on the market removes oot once it becomes large enough. What size soot particle does it remove?

From talking to various mfgrs of oil, test labs etc. soot isn't the only reason for black oil. Detergents also turn black. It takes analysis to know for sure what shape your oil is in. Looks may mean nothing! Oilguard claims to filter out submicron soot and my anals. proved it. Before bypass, I had . 07% soot. After bypass, I had 0% soot. I'm not an expert on these things so I'm just giving you what I saw. I'm using soot as a benchmark. I deal with many kinds of filtration at work and if a filter takes out soot, it seems like a hell of a filter to me! Soot is ten times finer than talc - just to put thing into perspective. I put mine on the front cross member. I used auto transmission cooler hose to flex to the engine and from there used 3/8 soft copper and a bender to make some neat fitting lines to get to the filter mount and oil fill spout. Oil comes from the 1/8" plug over the filter and I made a bulkhead fitting for the oil spout so I wouldn't have to mess with the cap. I thought about the turbo drain pipe but the spout trick was a lot easier and more accesible. I still don't know about filter change intervals. Probably 4k on the full flow for sure and undecided on the bypass. Maybe do oil samples every 4k and change filters after the results show good so I don't waste filters. At work, I sample the machines every 2k hours and if the report says 'good' I change the filters. If the oil is ready to change, I change oil and filters and haven't wasted a $75 filter before knowing about the oil. String wound filters are some of the best fluid filters there are until you get to the exotic 'ultra filtration' micro fiber medias, RO membanes etc. They've been around a long time in commercial and industrial applications. Look at all the filtering area in there! Maybe the bypass filter can go more than 4k because of that. The company that has Oilguard now says they originated this product. If you order one just play dumb and say you placed an order before the takeover and they will honor the sale price. I really did order mine last week and I called today to make sure they got it. The order got lost but I'm getting the sale price anyway! Craig

Soot..... for reference only! The highest I have seen and it was only once at the end of 24K miles on the oil was . 2%.

All other samples have never exceeded the minimum reporting value of <. 1%. This is with as many as 26K miles on the same oil.

I have no bypass... . just Microglass filters until Stratapore came out.

UPDATE: As of today, Oilguard has approx 500 of the EPS 20 filter kits available at the 50% sale price. Filter element filters to 1 micron, removes soot in oil. www.oilguard.com Phone number (permanent) is 1-760-967-0892, ask for Mark Meddock, tell him you are a member of the TDR. (Doesn't get you any further discounts, just gives them a scorecard).

Don't splice into the turbo drain pipe. You do NOT want oil backing up into the bearing housing on the turbo. Easiest to return the filtered oil at the valve cover. Restrict the oil flow being diverted to the by-pass filter to no more than one quart per minute at 2000 RPM. About half that amount would be even better. We can argue Synthetic vs. Conventional lubricants all day, but the benefits of a good by-pass filtration system are proven by 99% of the class 8 trucks on the road today. Hope this helps.
