Well it has been about 18 months and only 8k miles since this dealer replaced the first VP 44 at only 34k miles. All I have is an edge EZ. Wife has been talking to Chrysler rep but he has been in bad weather back east.

Dealer wants $2452 to replace it. If Chrysler wont work with us (like pay half) I will fix it myself; but I will have to add another derogatory sticker to my tailgate.

Not if they know you're running an Edge EZ. That's the risk we run when we start modding things--we're then placed in the position of having to prove our mods couldn't have caused the part under warranty to fail.

I do not know anything about Dodge but, When I worked at Landrover it was 1YR/12K whichever came first on a customer pay job. On warranty it is remainder of factory warranty. And if something was replaced under warranty and the vehicle is now out you are sol. I think it is a stupid policy. My wives Mazda had a 5YR/50K mile warranty and we had the transmission replaced at 47,000 and 3YRs for a known manufacturing issue. Well the new transmission is now leaking fluid real bad after 6mo and 8,000 miles but they said oh well your car is out of warranty.

thanks fellas; very likely that is exactly what I will do. Mine is a 6 speed HO, blue chip does NOT show a VP44 for this application; who should I buy the pump from, I am IN Calif?

still waiting for chysler rep to decide if they are going to help us out a bit.

Weather back east a factor, perhaps the reason for a delayed response

According to the law, (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975) DC has to prove in mediation (initial remedy you agreed to when you took the warranty) that your Edge caused the pump to fail. The law does not require the customer to prove the other way around. In fact it makes it illegal for the dealer to refuse warranty without first proving the aftermarket part caused the failure. If you have questions on the law and the application, try contacting the SEMA action network. If the product manufacturer is a SEMA member they may help out or at least tell you what your rights are. Its in SEMAs best interest to help their members stay in business by not allowing arbitrary indictment of their products by dealers.

Push the issue. Its cheaper for DC to just replace the pump than to try to prove that the Edge is the problem. Their "opinion" aint good enough in this case. Your only problem will be that they can try to wait you out while they have your vehicle.

Heres a good SEMA SAN primer on the law: Warranty interpretation by SEMA

We go through this all the time with Jeeps, they are the most highly moded vehicles out there and dealers are always telling our readers "nope you lifted it, it aint covered. " for everything from AC failures to engines.

Blue Chip fixed me up with a pump for my 01 HO and provided me with support and a loaner puller. I'd bet he can work with you for an 02 HO application as well. Highly recommend Blue Chip.

VP 44 for sale in TDR Issue 66

In the most recent TDR magazine Issue 66, page 23, there is Diesel Injection company that has them for $1089. 95 with a $20 dollar discount offered. It may be worth checking out. Good luck, Herb;)

well after 4 weeks damler chrysler will not help nor the dealer. I might add we agreed to pay half of the ($2452. 00) quote. At least they could have said that sooner so I did not have to pay for extra fast shipping of the reman injection pump.

Gonna do it myself like I should have from the get go.

I am old enough that I can safely say that I will never again buy any dodge product as long as I live. This truck has been the most costly vehicle (excepting the 1980 Puegot) that I have owned.

When we got this truck it it had a coolant leak, the coolant resavoir. Within 1 year the radiator leaked and was replace. Then the a/c compressor. Then the rear cylinder head freeze plug failed, then the first VP 44 injection pump, then another VP 44 after 16 months and 8k miles. Hell the truck has only 44k miles on it. sorry for the rant, I feel better now.
