Has anyone tried to do this, I have a 2013 Ram SLT that has what I think is the U connect 3. 5 or is it the 5. 0 Sat radio. I would like to upgrade it to the one with Navigation and maybe even the back trailer hitch cam. The dealer wasn't sure thought that might be just a re program and cam install. But true to dealer fashion they can't come up with an answer. In the good old days all ya had to do was change out the radio head to get diff features... Thanks in advance.

Buy a Garmin Nuvi with lifetime map upgrades. I will never buy another update disc for my Chrysler/Alpine GPS.

These new radios in the 13+ trucks are vin specific... You can't even take a Nav unit from one truck and put it into another... So, I say it's a no go to upgrade to a factory Nav 8. 4AN unit.

BTW, when I ordered, I was told what I order was what I would get stuck with ... for factory units. That's why I ordered the 8. 4 head unit w/Nav.

It's the smaller screen I think 5" give or take a bit. I did find a kit on the Ram parts and Acc site for the back up Cam it wasn't too bad price wise maybe Santa will have it under my tree this winter...

Ok, How do you tell which unit ya have?I thought the dealer said that I had an RA3 but not sure. .

RA3 = 8. 4a
RA4 = 8. 4an

Both look identical as they are the only units with the 8. 4 inch screen. The major difference between the 2 is that the 8. 4an comes with NAV from the factory and a few other features. 8. 4a can have Nav activated, but it will never get the additional features the 8. 4an has as standard features; for example HD radio. All other units currently have a smaller screens and can NOT have Nav added nor do they come with Nav.

Not to start an argument but we (wife and I) bought two high end tom, tom's. While traveling in Washington DC they were barely visible in bright light and somewhat difficult to operate. We've had very good luck with Garmins. Good luck.

I was trying to keep the truck all stock. I figured that it was like the old days that the dealer could just change out the display unit and be done with it. It would have been nice but it's not to be... . I'll just use my old Sextant it only fails me in the city's where I can't see the stars... Lol

If your steering wheel on the left side has the talk button then you have the 8. 4. Yes you can get Nav installed for $600, takes an hour. BUT you will be upgrading maps every year $$$$$ I opted to stay with my Garmin which is the newer Nuvi 3957 life time upgrades, i ask it questions and she talks back, its portable, less $$ Dont leave home without it!!

LOL !!! I thought the same thing when I got my 13' with the "slip and slide" transmission shifting or "High school clutch shifting" pattern. I thought , "re-flash the transmission, no biggee. LOL. . It may happen next year, or I may be stuck with the 68 RFFE shifting forever. . Hindsight is 20/20..... :)
