Update Needed on 2001 Towing Mirrors.

Stopped by DC to inquire about about the 2001 towing mirrors (PN 82206157) and was quoted a price of $270. 00/set.
DC states these mirrors fit '98 and newer but I seem to recall reading they will fit the older Rams as well. I've heard that a backing plate of some sort is required (for the older trucks) to add rigidity to the mounting flange. Is this true and if so does DC make one or must it be fabricated?
Any info that would bring me current on this retrofit would be greatly appreciated!

I just put them on my truck a few weeks ago. Mine came with the brackets. I got them cheaper from a local dealer. Mopar 4 Less also has them cheaper than the retail price you were quoted. E-mail me if you want more specifics.
