All,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help/advice/instructions on changing the heater core - your help was greatly appreciated. This group really goes the extra mile to help each other out - Thanks. :)

I ended up following the shortcut instructions from Joe Donnelly. Joe's procedure worked great and allowed the core to be changed without disconnecting the AC evaporator or fully removing the dash - saves a bunch of work. Joe's instructions were streamlined and very easy to follow - even for me who hadn't ventered into the dash before. I highly recommend this procedure be done Joe's way.

It took me about 8 hours to do the job - the hardest part was getting the AC box studs to go through the firewall when reinstalling. I spent about 2 hours trying to fish 2 studs back into the AC housing after they fell out of the socket (uhhh - you need elastic arms for this one). Once the AC box studs are through the firewall your home free.

BTW, quotes I got for having this done were about $800 to $1000 (yikes).

Thanks again for the help.

WAYNES WORLD,

Probably next is a rebuilt NV4500. The transmission emitts noise through the stick shift mostly in 3rd gear at 12 to 1450 rpm then it goes away above and below this. It has done this for 20K miles since I've had it but I think if it makes noise there must be something worn. Just makes me nervous on long trips . After that a #10 or 11 plate.
