I am shopping for some new 285 tires and really like the TrXus M/T that is made by Interco. After reading past posts on this tire, I was wondering how they have held up with time. Could someone give me an update on wear, etc. ? Would you recommend them? I plan on running 285's on a stock 6. 5" chrome rim. I know a lot of members have run this size on that rim with no problems, but I worry about doing it with a heavy lug M/T. Any comments??

Thanks!! :D

I am running BFG Mud Terrains in 285s on the stock rims, and have run them in the fall/winter for the last 4 years since I bought the truck. IMHO, these wider tires make the rig more subject to wandering, and they are a bast@#$ to balance due to the worthless stock wheels being so soft (getting bent). No cupping problems, no problems with tires popping off rims, etc etc. Just the balancing and the fact these things like to pull one way or another.

I'll prob go with narrower tire next time for my fall/winter needs, and prob not go with a mud lug---due to the fact I do a lot of hwy driving.

I am on my second set of Trxus 285 tires on 8" rims.

I like the I don't get stuck factor, our cabin has a half mile dirt road with two big hills.

BUT in the summer time they will get hot when towing a heavy load on hot black top. I did have one come apart when towing and a second one got a bubble on it after towing my 32'TT to Muncie last year.

Running empty they seem to be ok I put 8,000 miles on two trips to Canada and all was good.

Over all I put about 30,000 miles on the first set and now have 12,000 miles on the second set. And if all goes well I will buy the third set about 18,000 miles from now.

I started running 45 psi. but found them to cup every 5,000 miles I now run 60 psi. and have no cupping.

I think 6. 5 rims are to small for 285s I would run 255s just as tall and will fit the 6. 5s

Good Luck

Cliff
