Problem with tuner/turbo

turbo replacement tips

Back in Aug my 2013 Laramie Longhorn tripped a P20EE code... I guess I feel all the Dealer is doing is throwing parts at this... thoughts????

On the first trip to the dealer in Spokane they jumped on doing the T-05 recall, with a flash of the ECM....

A week later, the same code re-appears and now the same dealer tells me that the DEF injector is bad and I paid out of pocket close to $400 for the repair.... OH YEA... another flash of the ECM

We pack up the RV and head to our volunteer job site for Sept & Oct and 75 miles down the road the code re-appears, and by the time we get to our volunteer position its popped up 4 times so the code reader tells me...

So I now call the local dealer and while waiting for my appointment we are in the middle of the Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge, but a week a ago I finally get the truck into the local dealer in THE DALLES.... I spend 30 min giving him the background and showing him my other work orders...

So now the dealer tells me that a NOX sensor is bad, $540 plus labor, something like $800 total.... I looked the service manager in the face in front of 4 other customers and say to him... sure go ahead, as long as your willing to refund my money if the code re-appears in the next 150 miles.... he turned red... said he was sure this is what is wrong by would NOT refund my money or re-install the old NOX sensor if the code re-appeared... we further discussed the ability of the dealer to correctly diagnosis the problem... Needless to say I wasn't happy... and the other customers and the service writer knew that...

I paid the diagnosis fee, took the truck without the repair and called Chrysler Customer Care... that call was received well by the gal I talked to... she was professional and nice... wrote a report (forgot its name) and said within 3 working days I'd hear from technical support and they would work with the dealer to correct the problem... While I was on the phone, she (customer care) called the dealer and talked to them...

I than called the dealer back... they said, Customer Care never called, but I asked how this would work... they said, well, we're now 4 weeks behind with our diesel tech... so when they call we'll set an appointment when we have an open date...

I'm now into day 5 since I called Customer Care and no return call as promised... I'd love to have the truck fixed... but I'm not interested in replacing all the parts in the system while the dealer tries to guess whats going on....

Earlier Bob 4x4 shared with me that the dealer should have performed the "on the bench tests" on the DEF injection system to verify that the DEF injector was bad... but I don't know if they actually did that.....

I researched testing the NOX sensor and everything I read said that the ECM has the ability to test and diagnosis that part... does anyone know if all the NOX sensors in the system, I'm told there are 3, are the same part # and if they have the same programing... I guess that current sensors have their own circuit board a few inches from the sensor.... allowing one sensor to fit many different vehicles based on their programing....

Any thoughts, suggestions...

There should only be 2 NOx sensors, an inlet and outlet. They are not likely the same part number. Other than a power supply and ground, they have their own internal "computer" And then communicate all their information to the engine computer (ECM) via a dedicated CAN bus. They tend to do their own internal diagnostics and the ecm will code specific for particular hard failures of the NOx sensors themselves. Otherwise most NOx codes are relative to not seeing enough NOx conversion between inlet and outlet. Troubleshooting can be extensive and somewhat complicated, and often is a failure in something besides the sensor itself. I'm not familiar with Chrysler's code numbers, do you know what the description is of the code you are referencing here?

I only get the P20EE code.... and have stopped the repair for reasons stated above... they can't convince me that the NOX sensor is bad by them being unwilling to warranty the repair.... new call to Customer Care in the a.m. on Monday, now one called as promised....

Jim I went through the same issues with mine. First dealer said it wasn't covered under the warranty. They told me sensor was close to $600 and and then another $400 to install. I thought that sounded a little off, one that sensor was extremely high and I couldn't believe it would take $400 worth of labor to install it. I also felt like it should be warrantied. They reset my codes and gave me all the past history while I tried to make my mind up. I then studied on the warranty part of the issue and the way I read things they were right it wasn't covered. It also looked like it was a little difficult to get to and delicate to replace. I was just past the mileage for the warranty and had the truck in another dealer right before the mileage expired with another emissions issue so I called them to see if the same code was there then. The said bring it to them which I did and they replaced the sensor under warranty. I wasn't to confident that they knew what they where doing about the warranty part of the issues so I didn't ask a lot of questions. My issue seemed to be resolved after this. I have had one other code and it was for an intake leak which I questioned. I reset the codes myself and haven't seen anything else show up and have about 10k miles trouble free most all under a load of about 19k.

I doubt that helps any with your issue but it is food for thought.

UPDATE

Truck went into the dealer again today... Customer Care called the dealer and set the appointment... they expect to have the truck 4-6 working days to schedule the testing and final repair... We'll see how it goes...

I went through the same thing. The replacement of the SRC and re flash has solved my issues so far.... I miss my 05 life was simple and good back then
