Here I am

Tonight I changed my oil for the first time. It was nice to find out I don't need the "updated" oil filter since I was able to easily remove & install a pre-2003 Stratapore from above. All I had to do was remove the inlet hose to the turbo. . . no biggie. It was nice also to find out The Incredible Hulk is no longer installing the oil filters at the factory like was the case on my 2001. It spun off easily with the band filter removal tool.

I noticed in several photos of 2003s there is the APPS (throttle position sensor unit) bolted to the front of the engine like all the 24-valve trucks, but mine does not have this. There is nothing bolted there. It appears my throttle cable routes underneat the battery on the driver's side.

Another thing I decided to do was BOMB my intake turbo silencer. Some had posted they cut several holes in the piece that looked like swiss cheese, but when I pulled mine out there was only 2 flat longitudinal pieces in an X-pattern which would not pose any airflow restriction. Evidently Dodge updated it to eliminate the intake restriction.

Well not much else to report from this camp ;)

I have only seen silencers as you described. We do away with them with our airbox kit.

Some trucks get the APPS, others don't. Seems like the cut-off is around 1-03 build date.

APPS Location

Just to clarify for all. All of the '03 2500 and 3500's have an APPS (Accelerator Pedal Position Senor).

Just after production (not sure of the date) the APPS was moved to underneath the battery. Still present, just in a different location.

The APPS make the throttle a fly by wire-no direct connection to the engine because with the Cummins, we are not adjusting air to mix with fuel... the ECM adjusts fuel to mix with air to obtain the proper fuel ratio.

My only concern is battery acid on these trucks as they age...

Just my 0. 02 worth.

Shortcut 'Oo. '

It seems the whole cable and routing could be eliminated if it was under the GO pedal where it should be.

The Duramax has the APPS where you are speaking of. Nothing goes past the firewall,, the Go Pedal is connected dierectly to the APPS.

I'm sure it's just a savings to have the same part for gassers and diesels all in the same place. Some of them probably need the physical cable poking thru there. It really seems stupid that it's not just electrical going thru the firewall though. If the AAPS (or whatever they want to call it) was mounted on the inside of the firewall above the accelerator pedal, the longevity would be greatly improved.

Bighammer, it is always about the all mighty $$$$. It was at the beginning of the year when the relocation of the throttle sensor was changed. It is my understanding that DC was looking to save money by not needing a sensor that could handle the intense vibrations that the mighty power plant creates. By moving the sensor under the battery, they can use a lesser expensive AAPS.

BTW, the throttle sensor housing on my truck was causing a binding on the throttle stop. It would cause my pedal to stick occasionally. DC has released an all new housing and you can move the intercooler plumbing away from the housing. My dealer replaced mine and have had no trouble since.

Vaughn,

They all have the X-pattern baffle in the intake, and it's doubtful that it impedes flow, but it does impede turbo whistle. I chopped mine out the first day I owned it. Now, I can hear it whistling away as I throttle up! I took a sawzall and cut it out into four pieces and took it right on out.

Genos just came out with a Moore Powder Coatings' Eliminator Pipe for the 03. Its on Pg 2 in catalog #40. The one you just got with your mag:D
