Locked hitch head on 5er while towing?

I've got the factory hitch on my truck, which I guess is a class IV. I don't tow very often but I've heard stories about he factory hitches cracking. Is it worth upgrading to a class V? Do I want a 2" or 2 1/2" receiver? Which is the best brand? Thanks for the help.

My factory hitched cracked bad enough when I hooked a trailer to it it bent down to where it was only about 4 inches from the ground. I put on a Reese Class V 2 1/2" reciever. I also got a 2 in adapter so I can still use my Rapid Hitch. I don't think I will ever have problems with this hitch! HEAVY DUTY :D

Not all of them will crack but Chrysler has a bracket that can be added to strengthen the hitch. I have the extra brace on my hitch and can post a pic if you need.

It cost about $20 for the kit and I paid the installer $20 to install it. The hitch is super strong now.

Check into the kit that Chrysler offers.

Weren't most of the factory hitches more like a class III than IV? Mine on the '95 cracked. Replaced it with a Putnam Class V. Very high weight ratings and excellent price.

Get the Putnam XDR Class V from Weaver Distributing in PA. The XDR has the highest towing capacity in the industry and is priced a lot lower than the Tow Beast or Reese Titan (same hitch) and you don't need the 2-1/2 to 2" adapter anytime you need a ball mount smaller than the reciever holds. Free delivery to your door. Their number is 1-800-Weaver-D. Oh and it's made in the USA too.
