what RPM to shift?

I've got a 2001 with 44K trouble free miles... . Love the truck... Don't like the noise, which has grown louder after installing an e-brake... . Worried abit about the lift pump & VP-44 issues..... Since it's the same engine as the new common rail trucks, has DC or anyone else thought of offering a kit to retro fit older 5. 9s with the new Common rail system???... . Do that, and I've got the perfect truck, ( I prefer the styling and interior of my 2001 to that of the new 3rd generation's).

A LOT of stuff is different between our engines and the 3rd gen. Yes they have the same bore and stroke but not much more. A change to common rail would be extremely difficult if not impossible because of the ecm differences and how it ties into the dash, etc. Even if you did you wouldn't get all of the sound difference because part of that comes from block design changes, etc. This is a quote from the article I did at the original press release event of the 2003 models, this was from talking to a Cummins engineer at the event - "Two thirds of the parts are new or redesigned on the 2003 engine as compared to its predecessor. "
