Well as usual with everything , It just isn't fast enough.

I've been thinking about this for a while and am wondering if it's time to step up to a Comp box. I really don't want to grenade a trans. I just want lots of trouble free miles but it would be nice to get just a little more power.

The only trans upgrades I've done are the converter, valvebody and servo other than that the trans was rebuilt stock. Will this handle a comp ?

I would say your trans would probably not handle a Comp for long, depending on how you drive it. If your warranty is up or you just don't care, get a Comp and run it on the lower levels (if you can stand it). Otherwise, the only slight power increases I could think of would be some bigger injectors, smooth power.

I think this is right on the money. I lost my trans even before I started BOMBing. The converter and valve body will help, but I don't know how long the trans itself will last. Better yet, give DTT a call as you have some of their stuff and see what they say.

As far as the Comp, yeah more power is great. The lower levels (i. e. level one) should be close to your edge or a little higher. Higher than that it might be trans trouble. Always build the truck to handle the horsepower before making the horsepower.

If you want a slight power increase, try a CATCHER. They're great for responsiveness and general driving. There is huge thread on TDR. Lots of guys have one and could help you wade through all the info.

Catcher will only make your transmission problems worse.

I have driven a truck with a catcher along with a very intelligent member of this site.

Our feeling on the catcher was: It makes too much power with too little throttle input. Meaning if you make 200 horses with 1/2 throttle the catcher will make 200 horses with 1/4 throttle.

With that said a stock transmission will not take the added horsepower earlier in the power band. The reason for this is because a transmission lives on throttle pressure. The harder you are on the go pedal the higher the transmission line pressure will be. Now that you do not have to use as much throttle (with the catcher) to get going, you are not making as much line pressure. In short the more HP with less throttle input means more HP going through the trans with less line pressure, wich means a TRASHED trans.

That is the best explaination i can give, hope it helps.

Have you drove a truck with a comp ? If not come down sometime you can drive dads truck.

Good Luck

This is certainly possible and the analogy suggested seems to make sense. However, if one is not careful with a comp (i. e. fuels early) the same thing is possible. What I meant with the CATCHER was that it might provide the increased responsiveness and seat-of-pants performance without going to a comp and a tapped pump wire, which could certainly spell trans trouble if abused. The sig for cwarner does indicate a DTT valve body which should provide increased line pressure throughout the RPM range. Whether this is enough or not for either the CATCHER or comp is debatable.

My ultimate suggestion is still the same with the CATCHER or Comp or anything else for that matter. Call DTT and see what they say given the current upgrades.

And build the the truck (read: transmission) for horsepower before building the horsepower itself.

Yes his sig did indicate a DTT VB. That is not where the problem lies, it is the internals of the trans. If i was a transmission expert i could tell you exactly what would happen, but unfortunatly i'm not :(

Wasn't trying to step on your toes either, just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

Either way, good Luck

If you do decied to upgrade, keep the EZ and add a fueling only box, such as a TST Power Max 3, or a Blue Chip box. I have a TST Comp, and an EZ and have nothing but good things to say about it.
