Upgrade Transmission

Plan on purchashing a 30 - 32' 5th wheel. Will be adding a smarty Jr. and an exhaust brake to the truck. Should I consider upgrading the transmission? If so, What would you recommend. 06 2500 QC 4 X 4 Automatic.

From what I understand the stock transmission/torque converter can not handle an exhaust brake. Billet input at least from what I have been told while speaking with builders. Also a lock up controller or switch for the converter.

I've had my Pac Brake on for two years, running an Edge Juice/Attitude, stock transmission with no problems. The Pac Brake came with a controller to keep the t/c locked up at the appropriate times. I tow a 32' 5th wheel with 2 slides. Keep the revs up and egt's down on long pulls. That brake is great on the down hill.

I have the 04. 5 with the 48RE automatic and us a pack brake. their lock up switch works fine. I pulled our 30 ft. wildcat out west for about 10,000 miles two years ago and everything worked great, except the pack brake air pump mounts directly above the fuel injector harness and don't you know that we were north of Yellowstone on Bear Claw highway at about 11,000 ft. and the injector harness grounded out 3 of the injectors. I got it to the dealer in Cody Wy and they found the problem and wraped the harness in a plastic loom, no problems since. I also run the SMARTY Jr on tow setting.

I just recently started experiencing sluggish shifts on cold mornings and had Garmon's Diesel put in a billet Torque Converter and new valve body, Trucks running Great w/98000 on it.

I also had my number on injector ground out to the base plate for the PB. It was so intermittent that it took several months to find the problem. Naturally it happened while on a trip, I received great help from Crown Motors in Redding CA.
