I am thinking of upgrading the valve body to one of the aftermarket ones. I have heard that due to the extra pressures etc. that there is the chance of breaking the band, possibly the wavy washer in the front clutch etc. Sounds like internal mods are necessary to do the thing right , but then it really takes the thrill out of it considering the cost of a complete tear down. Any comments?

Which is best, BD, DTT or Dunrite?

Unless things have changed recently, Dunrite doesn't have their own VB, they just install a Trans-Butty shift kit. Any qualified transmission tech can do this install for you. (key word is qualified)

I would go with the DTT, if for no other reason than superior customer service. Also the VB will be tested before it leaves the shop, so you know you are getting a good part.

Bill and his associates will build you a VB tailored to your needs, and if you have any questions during the install I'm sure he will be more than happy to help.

Maybe the others offer similar VB's (I don't think they do), but I have yet to see anybody else's customer service on the same caliber as Bill K's.

Not just the valve body.......

get the hole deal from... ..... DTT. Please don't make a mistake there stuff is top notch, get the transmission update, V/B and converter and you will wonder what Dodge was thinking cause it will be a new truck again, oh and the truck I rode in once had a Dunrite Converter in it..... think about it!

Thanks for the replies, as it is always good to talk to someone who has been there, done that. I would love to do the whole thing, but as I stated earlier, cash flow for this is very limited for the time being. So a trans rebuild (it now has 5,000miles on rebuild) is not feasible, or are the trans mods something that can be done without a tear down?

I have had the pleasure of speaking to Bill K. and he is not only knowledgeable, but a very friendly supportive individual. A rare individual nowadays.

I have seen the Dunrite Trans Butty, and wondered what it was, and it sounds like some re-valving/different springs. Would I be wasting my time getting the DTT valve body without the TC and trans mods?

DTT valvebody

There are a number of benefits to installing the valvebody. Some are increased line pressure, better shift pattern, more converter feed which is more cooler flow which is more lube for the gear train. To really appreciate the valvebody you need the converter as well as so much of your power is not fully used in the lower gears due to the inefficiency of the stock converter. While the internal mods are better for the trans, they are not mandatory IF the recent o/h was done properly. If you have a chance to ride in a truck with the DTT converter and valvebody the decision will be easy. It just might take saving a few more nickels.

The DTT is the way I am going to go, as Bill has been most supportive and always there with the help I've asked for. I don't know how he manages to remain sane with all the inquiries he gets; an extraordinary person!

The trans rebuild was done by the Dodge dealership, and susposedly model yr. 2000 parts were used. Planetaries, drums intermediate shaft, clutches etc. I can't confirm this but have to take the mechanic at his word. The front clutch has had its clearances reduced to . 060, and the line pressure is 65lbs @idle. No check valve in the cooler line, it's been eliminated.

I like the things the valve body can do, but I'm going to have to forego the TC for now if I do the VB at this time, as $1000 here at Xmas etc. is a little tough. At least I know what I need to do I am definetly going with DTT for the upgrades. We go up to British Columbia each year, I might see if I can arrange to have it changed out at Bills shop if Abbotsford is anywhere near Vancouver.

Thanks for all the information, it is always good to hear from the ones who install them as well as the satisfied user's recommendations.

Well I'm gonna throw in my thoughts here.

Dave Goerend Has worked with me on several different things with my truck and all of them has worked. I'm not down talking anyones products!!! I just happen to think that Dave is a really nice guy and knows the dodge trans well. He has earned my trust in his work. I have talked to probably every trans advertiser on the tdr page and he still gets my bussiness. Alot of people only think that there is only one company that sells trans accessorys, and I would like to tell them that their are others.

My main reason for buying Daves stuff is because I have never heard him downgrade anyone, not even when he is talking to just me on the phone. His prices are unbelivible, for what you get (Best bang for you buck MHO)

All I want to tell people is just to give him a call and talk to him about what you are thinking about your trans. He will not hesitate to talk to you for an hour just so that you understand what a valve body does or why it does it or just anything that you have trouble understanding.

I know I'm gonn get yelled at by many, but I really think some people don't get credit for who they are and what they do.

Just give him a call when you are doing you homework

Daves number is 319-778-2719

He is located in St. Lucas IA (northeastern iowa)

BigYellowIron, I want you to know I have nothing but respect for Dave Goerend, as he spent quite a bit of time with me on the phone one Saturday morning. He even said he would "walk me through" the trouble shooting I was doing; that is, he would talk to me while I was under the truck inspecting things over the phone! You don't find many willing to help like that. I decided it would just be better to replace the VB and do it right, rather than just keep messing around trying to get the stock stuff to do what it can't do, the way it came from the factory.

Bill Kondolay has been communicating with me as well for some months now, also helping me with my problems that the dealer seemed to keep inflicting upon my transmission. He takes the time to guide you and help in anyway he can, which explains why he is overwhelmed with inquiries/work as well. I have made an appointment for Bill K. to change out my VB at his shop in Abbotsford, B. C. , as we will be going up that way.
