Hi everybody... . a couple of months ago, I started this thread, entitled ": oversized spare,Mag Hytec, and the J-Lo effect " https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum3/HTML/003099.html

Earlier this week, one of the cables (the forward tensioner, not the one under the tire) failed #ad
.
Today, I replaced the old one (all small, light-duty hardware and 3/32 vinyl-coated cable) with an identically designed setup using 1/4" cable, size-matched end-loop hardware, and 2 big 3/8" turnbuckles, and a bigger quick-link. . we'll see how long that lasts. .

In case any of you have copied the previous design, you might want to:
A. : limit the tension on the forward cable to only what's needed to limit movement
B. : add another strand of cable parallel to the original, thereby sharing the stress
or C. : R/R with heavier hardware and cable.

happy clattering and remember, a tireswing belongs in a tree, not under a truck #ad

Not sure what cable you mean. Are you talking about the spare tire hoist cable?. Also, i am curious about the JLo Package?.

Hi Rich,
You might have looked under my truck at the Dyno Day to see another way that I think is a lot easier. I made up a 1/4" thick steel strap something like 1. 5 x 6" long with two steel studs welded onto it. This plate goes between two lug holes in the wheel, with the studs into two of the holes. The winch cradle then is forced to one edge of the wheel's center hole. Thus, when the tire is winched up, it is off balance but it goes automatically to the rear against the trailer hitch. This gives maximum clearance to the diff cover. I ran a chain from the H crossmember with a bolt and nut through another wheel stud hole as "insurance" that the tire can't drop to the ground even if the cable fails.

Hope this helps.
Joe

here's a "link" to a mini-album of my tire tying rig=== http://www.photocountry.com/viewalbum. asp?UserId=2390&AlbumId=5089&PageNum=1 as usual, I do everything the hard way, not like joe d's description above
As for the J-Lo effect, I was referring to the Mag-Hytec diff cover making the truck's booty look more attractive #ad

I don't think Roy's wife would like him doing "negotiations" #ad
with Ms. Lopez for the use of her trademark... Also, she (JLo) might not feel comfortable hanging around with people who aren't, shall we say, "shady".

HMMMMMMM... . I bet a big U-bolt thru 2 wheel-stud holes could also be used as an attachment for the backup piece. Depending on what kind of ride-violence would cause the hoist cable to fail, that would at least spread the stress on the wheel itself... be a bummer to find the one-hole system leading to a kink in the wheel... ...
Got past 609 yet?
