Upgrades

I would like to hear input regarding the best tire sizes for a "99" Ram 2500 with 4:10 gears. I an considering 285/75/16 and would like to hear pro's and con's. I also would like to know about the performance enhancing boxes. I would like to add some performance, nothing too radical just good solid power and reliability. Which ones work best? I've read and heard about the "TST", "EDGE", and "SUPERCHIPS" they sound interesting, and how does stacking work, like stacking a Superchip with an Edge? Also what are the best injectors sizes, what are "D III's? Thanks for all the help and I realize these are subjective opinions, however it may help me draw my own conclusion. Brad

As far as tire sizes, i feel that 285/75's on stock wheels are nice. 315's can rub and so can 305/70's. Its all up to you and how you want your truck to look/ride. the rubbing of the larger sizes isn't bad and you can stop it with a steering stop. as far as boxes, do a search and check it out. some are fueling only, some are timing and fueling, some are timing only and some can be stacked effectively, some tap the vp44 wire and some don't. also, you need to consider exhaust, turbo upgrade, air intake, etc... when you get into a box and big injectors and definately a clutch or auto transmission upgrade depending on what you have. ddIIIs are diesel dynamics stage three injectors. they make many other stages too. also, there are a lot of other injector companies out there with great products. do a search and you will have a solid few hours of reading. good luck.

re. bigger tires

i recently changed tires from 245/75/16 to 285/57/16 on my 2001 2500 4x4 with the 6speed and love the change, no rub, look great and I wanted and like the higher gearing of the larger tires. but be sure to check or have the tire guys check for rub on the steering parts. as the wheel offset on your 99 could be different from mine. good luck eric

I've been running 305/70/16 goodyear wrangler ats's since day one and have not had any rub, my speedo is off by about 10%, doesn't seem to have much effect on the performace of the truck much if any. I think your '99 should be able to clear 305's but i'm not sure.

I'm running 315/70/16 's on my 98 2500 4x4 auto and they do fairly well. I do get a little rubbing from the tires if doing very sharp turn such as a u-turn. Aside from that I have had no problems. My mileage and spedo is off by about 10 - 12 %...

Did any one see a decrease in fuel milage when they went to 305's? I'm trying to track down a milage drop and it is Killing me:( Did the tires after I noticed a loss in milage. Also today noticed that my top speed is only 110mph and not the 117 as previous, not the tires is it/:eek:

Thanks to all , Jared (Not trying to steal the thread just don't know what to do, sorry)

Are you taking into account the difference in milage, exp. if you odometer says that you went 300 miles on a tank, you actually went 330-340 miles, and same with the top speed if you speedometer shows 70mph, you are actually going 77-78mph, unless you have had your speedo recalibrated.

I put 305's on and have'nt been able to get a true MPG calculation since the speedo is off, but I don't think it has affected it much. I checked the speedo with a GPS and it's only off by 2. 5 mph @ 70. That's if changing from 265's.
