I have a chance to purchase a California 2004 at a large discount compared to the 325/600 unit, and since I am into value (OK, I'm cheap), my question is: Will the aftermarket boxes increase the horsepower to that of the HO engines?

A bigger question would be: What are the differences between the Low (CA) output and the HO? Are they different only in the computer programing, or are cams, injectors and other mechanicals different? And, will the addition of a box void the warranty - a Dodge parts man told me they can tell if a box was installed and latter un-installed prior to warranty work.

One final question: Which box would do the job best, and will my miles per gallon be sacrificed for power?

I have an HO that I'm willing to sell, PM me if you are interested.

She runs perfect, the only flaw in my eyes is me coosing the auto. I miss my exhaust brake.

If your into saving a buck or two just buy it then slap an Edge EZ fueling box on her and you will over 300 horsepower. The HO's do have some mechanical difference's such as piston's, J-jet cooling nozzles for the pistons and a few other things but it should not matter.

I'd have to disagree. I think in the long run, the cooling nozzels and such in the HO would be the precise difference, especially if your going to bomb... ... ... . I don't think DC would have spent the money on R&D if the older SO engine could stand up to the heat and pressure of the HO specs... ... ... ..... Just my . 02

I would buy Rank Rams 03 H. O. and bring into Calif. it probably already has enough miles on it and you would second owner so Cal D. M. V. shouldn't be a pain in the arse to reg.

Plus 03's get better mileage than 04. 5

Good luck

No flame intended

Most are NOT getting bad MPG's, the majority is getting between 15 and 16 right from the get go. I've only seen one other person getting as bad as your MPG's stroker. Just because you got a bad seed, doesn't mean you should try and discourage the world from buying the 600. I for one am getting right at 16 and couldn't be happier, still have under 500 miles on my rig. Sorry to hear about your misfortune, wouldn't wish it upon anyone after spending that kind of dough.

I'm not trying to be controversial with you Sarge but there are a lot of 12 valvers and SO 24's that are putting down some serious power with little reliability issue's. I am sure the HO componet's have some merit but if GCrowl can save huge money on a SO and is ok with driving a SO then he shouldn't base his decision on piston's and J-jets.

I personally think if he is just trying to reach the power level of a HO with some to spare an EZ (along with gauges and intake) should be fine on that rig. However, If he want's 400hp then the HO should be his weapon of choice.

What sold me on a SO was that it is the same power on the previous generation HO. It was enough power to get me pulled over while pulling my TT.
